October 26, 2019: College Try

Ok, here’s my one blog about college football this year.

It was my mom’s birthday (happy birthday Mom!), and we all got together. The Hawks game was finishing up (we’ll get to them soon enough), so we turned our attention to some of the college action. The upset alert was Oklahoma vs K-State. Some questionable clock management late was followed by an all or nothing onside kick. OU got it, but then it went to review. It took forever. We were all joking about who was on the other end of the phone. Of course it’s Papa Vegas and all his cronies from across the betting landscape. I know it was a close call, which is just what Papa likes by the way, but to take that long? I guess Kansas State was the right side on this one….money line at that. It was funny. Haven’t watched a lick of college ball all year, and instantly started cheering in this one. Wanted to see Oklahoma come back and make it exciting.

Then one of the games of the week kicked off with Auburn at LSU. Was not really zoned into that one…. I know the SEC is still THE conference…the powerhouses, the future Sunday players. I know it’s still Bama and everybody else; that sucks by the way. If you know me, I’m not really a fan of teams who win too much, unless we’re talking about one of my teams, then I can’t get enough. But any other team? Take your one title and keep it moving. So it’s pretty much anybody but Bama at this point; heck, even Clemson too.

As far as local college football teams go, the closest thing to that for me is Notre Dame. They ended the night getting pasted in Michigan; that has always been a good rivalry. Sure, I’ll support Northwestern too, but Illinois has to be up there too. To see them beat the Badgers the other week was great. That crazy white bearded bastard got one…and another this week I believe. Good for them. I can only recall Jeff George, Simeon Rice, that RB mendenhall in the rose bowl that year…Arrelious Benn. Slim pickings all those years I guess. It’d be nice to see them climb to the top of the big ten; wishful thinking maybe. But yeah, the ND game was ugly.

Ok just kind of rambling on here. Let’s get back to something more in my wheelhouse. Do we have to talk about Da Bears??
