That was ugly. It was such a beautiful day leading up to this game. I couldn’t stop smiling all day long, just waiting for the World Series to begin; just waiting to see my Cubbies play in the Fall Classic for the first time in my life. Well, I did, and it wasn’t pretty. Good news is that it’s only one game; we need to get that out of the system and move on as soon as possible.
We’ll get to move on an hour quicker than normal, with Game 2 pushed forward an hour in an attempt to try to avoid some of the weather on the way. This has been a specialty of this Cubs team that is hopefully rubbing off on us fans. We can’t let the loss get to us; we have to stay patient and believe that the better team, that will not quit, will come back, and eventually, come out on top. We need to stick to that script, at least for now. After all, who really needed that Game 1 more? They did, and bravo for them, they got it. Now we move on.
There were some good things that came out of the game, and no I’m not talking about the pitch calling of the home plate umpire. It was awfully good to see Kyle Schwarber back. He was back and thrown right into the fire facing two of the best pitchers in the AL. He held his own; he almost hit one out of the park off Kluber, and drew a nice walk off Miller. Miller got him the second time around; I’ll be interested to see how that goes if they meet again. That was another good thing; the fact that Miller threw 46 pitches in 2 innings. It’s like a good boxer working the body; we did not see any results yet, but the work was put in. We have to trust the work will yield the results later in the series. We will see Miller again and again. This first time around could prove to be valuable.
It will prove to be valuable with both Miller and Kluber. Kind of like Kershaw in the last series, they won the first battle. The Cubs went to school on it, and came back the next time with the TKO of Clayton in Game 6 of the NLCS. When will we meet this pair again? Whenever it is, we will be looking to settle the score. Hopefully, we have learned from our loss. This is another great quality of this Cubs team. The ability to take something out of a loss, and use it positively to either stop a losing streak, or not make the same mistakes twice. It certainly played out in the NLCS, as it did in the regular season. We hope that holds true in this series.

Lester wasn’t bad. The first inning got out of hand quickly. After 2 quick outs, the Indians put up 2 runs with only 1 ball leaving the infield. That was ugly, and proved to be the difference in the game. 2015 Lester showed up for a second when he served up a puppy to the Indians scrub catcher; back then, he was good for giving up a long ball off some guy who had no business hitting one. Yet, this scrub catcher came back and touched up Rondon for the finishing touch in this game. I was wondering where Rondon was; now, I’m wondering why he isn’t back to wherever he was.
I feel OK. Yes, it’s never fun to lose, especially in our first impression on the biggest stage. Yes, it’s never fun to fall behind in a series, but we’ve been here before. The NLDS last year vs the Cardinals, and the NLCS this year vs the Dodgers. We fell behind in both series, and you know the results. We should have a little confidence built up from those series wins, vs trying to recall ancient history, like the fan in the front row with those signs was reminding us of. I wanted somebody to punch that guy in the face.
So, I will go to sleep tonight without much trouble. I will be anxious for Game 2; anxious to see if we could accomplish our mission and get one on the road. If we do, then OK. If we don’t, then Cleveland simply held serve; although that would definitely test our confidence and faith. I keep reminding you, and myself; you didn’t think it was going to be easy did you? Back tomorrow in a jiffy for Game 2; it’s time for Jake to be Jake, and the Cubs to even the series. Let’s Go Cubs!!!

Game 1 facts :
Lester not throwing to 1st, when he had the guy….really dumb
Does Schwarber deserve a WS roster spot….it may boost morale but kill chemistry
Miller is hittable…
Kluber is not
Cubs bats need to wake up again
184 million dollar man needs to be in the lineup
Indians fans suck…”Bartman for President”…..really?
Game 2 hopes:
Jake needs run support!
Jake is going to show us why he is the best pitcher in the game right now
Rizzo and Bryant need to step up.
Rizzo needs to be vocal…silent leaders don’t work anymore
Some CUBS..need to stop looking at their hits and start running….why has this been a problem all playoffs?
CUBS win game 2!

Game 1 punch to the gut. Kind of what I wanted to do to the injuns fans with signs and the homeplate ump. Bottom line, Cubs had chances and could not get the big hit. Lester was good but not great. Seeing Schwarbs in the lineup was aWesome, and he almost went deep. Cubs hitters made klubejob and miller work hard, though…hope that pays dividends later in the series. Time for game 2. Time for the Cubs to answer and even up this series!
GO CUBS GO!!!
