October 25, 2018: Early and Often

It was only the 10th game of the season, but it was an important win for the Blackhawks vs the Rangers at the UC on Thursday night.  With the Western Conference, more specifically the Central Division, shaping up to be crazy competitive, the Hawks will need all the wins and points that they can get; early and often is the only way we’re going to get this done.

The Predators are out to the division lead with 16 points; we knew they were going to be good again.  Maybe this year they can raise a Stanley Cup banner, not just a division champs banner.  Let’s hope not.  The Jets will be up there again, and the Avalanche look to be in the mix too.  Then there’s the Wild and Stars… all the teams I just mentioned plus the Hawks have more than 10 points already.  Only one team in the division has less than that, and that’s the Blues with 7 points.  We play them next.

So yes, even if it was the pitiful Rangers, the win is still 2 points.  The Hawks need to win every game they should win, and then some to stay towards the top of the standings.  Do they have the fire power to do it?  Haha… already analyzing their long term chances; just enjoy the ride, right?  Well, no.  There needs to be focus from early on to make it back to the playoffs; that sounds weird.  Yes, the Hawks did NOT make the playoffs last year.  So yes, do they have the fire power to keep this up?

The best thing about the last couple games is the play of Crow.  It would be HUGE if he can stay healthy and play like this.  That alone should help us stay in the mix, but that can’t be it… The defense has to improve.  Giving up 33 shots in 1 period, a Hawks record, the other day vs the Lightning is totally unacceptable.  The defense seems to always be a concern.  Henri looks good, and Gustafsson with his beautiful shot passes help the defense look better, but don’t you think we’ll need more?  Keith and Seabs will have to do, but adding another guy is likely if the Hawks stay up there as the season goes along.

The other thing that always creeps its head up is the inconsistency of the offense.  The big 3 thus far have been Kane, Toews, and DeBrincat (love the feistiness, but don’t get your ass kicked).  We’ll need more than that.  After being demoted to the 4th line and almost a healthy scratch, Brandon Saad has been playing his ass off lately.  We’ll need him.  And how about this other kid… Fortin?  Where did he come from?  He looks fast as hell out there; we’ll need Schmaltz too.

It’s been an exciting start.  I’m thoroughly enjoying it.  And I just got an email for Hawks tickets at face value… waiting for below face value, and then I may go to a game.  Haha..  Go Hawks!

Early and often is right. The Hawks division is stacked and should be all year, which means tough sledding for the Hawks and their fight to get back to the playoffs. Yes, having Crow back is huge, but he needs to stay healthy. If he does, I’ll take the Hawks getting back to the playoffs. It seems like every year we talk about more help on the D line. This year is no different. If Kane, Toews, and Cat can stay consistent, the other players should do enough to help the Hawks offensively. It has been a great start, but more will be needed without a doubt. GO HAWKS!!!
