October 24, 2023: One More To Go

Well, that’s that. The Phillies were eliminated on Tuesday night by the surprising Arizona Diamondbacks, and now, the series is set. One more to go to crown the 2023 MLB Champions.

A day earlier Texas sent Houston packing; I was happy. I was happy because I had a 2 unit bet on the Rangers to win the Series, although I did hedge the last two games, can’t lie. I was happy because we don’t have to see the Astros on the big stage again. I saw something on Twitter saying this will be the first World Series in 6-7 years that doesn’t feature either the Astros or the Dodgers; thank you? Yes, thank you! Time for some new blood. The Texas Rangers have been great most of the year, and while providing a scare in the ALCS by losing 3 straight home games, they pulled it out by winning all 4 road games!!! Talk about crazy. They are the heavy favorites in the World Series… kind of like the Phillies were in the NLCS.

It’s nights like these where I’m happy I have learned some discipline with my sports betting, because man… I loved the Phillies to win. Yes, I still did lose on Game 7, the first in Phillies history by the way, which is another crazy tidbit, but only a little more than my normal play. I was talking about “backing the truck up”… silly boy…. haha. But how about those Dbacks? Underdogs vs the Brewers… won. Underdogs vs the Dodgers… won. Underdogs vs the Phillies… won. Underdogs vs the Rangers…??? Yeah, they’re playing that role to a tee with all those young guys. How about their rookie pitcher on the mound in Game 7 in Philly? Yeah, not too shabby. Ranger did OK for the Phils, but the bats… disappeared. Shocking is a good word for it. Bryce, Trea, Schwarbs, Castellanos, JT… tough, tough loss for the Phillies.

I like watching the baseball playoffs when the Cubs aren’t involved because my stress level isn’t through the roof. Yes, when I have money on a team, I feel it a bit, but it pales in comparison to when the Cubs are involved. The other day was the anniversary of the Cubs making their first World Series since 1945 when they beat the Dodgers in Wrigley in Game 6 of the NLCS. Somebody posted the entire bottom of the 9th on Twitter… I had to wipe a tear or two away after watching that. Memories… and oh yeah, Game 7? With both of the LCSs going to 7 games, I think back to the one Game 7 that almost ended my life… haha. Yes, that glorious, glorious game when the Cubs broke the 108 year curse. I miss it… I miss walking that tightrope from pitch to pitch… I miss seeing my life flash before my eyes multiple times per game… haha. Crazy to say all that, but it’s true. When will we be back?

Well, baseball will be back on Friday night with the Fall Classic. The Rangers vs the Dbacks… who you got? I’m sure most have the Rangers, which I’m sure is perfectly fine with the Dbacks; they’re used to it. So you want to bet against them? How’s that been working out for you? Yes, the Rangers have been very very good to me in the postseason, but… is it time to go oppo? Tough to bet against Bochy manning that ship, but… this Dbacks team… maybe there’s something about them, something that will end up in a World Series title. Can’t wait to find out.
