Look, I’m the most positive Bears fan you’ll meet; I get down on them, believe me, but I always think they have a chance… well, most of the time. Tonight in Foxboro was no different. This isn’t the Brady Pats, who kicked our ass repeatedly; this was a 500 football team… one game better than us. Yeah, it was a road game, and yeah, we haven’t won one on the road yet, but still… I thought it would be a toss up; I thought we had a real chance to win this game. Yet, at no time, did I believe I would see what actually happened in this game… it was an absolute beat down, on national TV, on the road, on MNF… who dis?
It was, as if, they were reenacting Super Bowl XX… excuse my blasphemy… haha. It wasn’t quite 46-10, but hey, 33-14… we’ll take it; too bad the Pats weren’t wearing those throwback unis… It was, as if, the Bears listened to what I said this past week, about not letting Belicheck surpass Halas on our watch. Yes, it will happen, and yes, Shula already did it, but the first attempt he had to pass Halas, presented the only game we’d have control over; he’ll have to wait at least another week. Yeah, the Bears made us proud tonight; it’s nights like these, games like this, that make being a die-hard fan, enduring all those embarrassing losses, supporting your team through the tough times, all worth it. Sure, it wasn’t a Super Bowl win, a playoff win, a playoff clinching win, or even a win over the Packers; still… we needed this. I think we all understand that this team isn’t built for the Super Bowl this year; I think we were all hopeful they would be better than what all the national heads said before the season began. This W was a big shot in the arm. Will they build on this? Is this the start of something? Both questions to be answered on another night. Tonight, we celebrate; we bask in the glory of a really, really nice win.
Selfishly, I’m happy my week isn’t fricking ruined now; in fact, a Bears win like this, on a Monday night, will help make tomorrow, and the rest of the short week left after this final game of Week 7 in the NFL, go by pretty quickly. It makes a difference, at least for me. I would much rather celebrate a Bears win, than constantly relying on the Packers opponent to bring me joy; they still bring me joy when they beat the cheese, just saying… nothing beats a Bears win. And oh yeah, don’t look now, but the Bears and Packers have the same record… forget about the fact it’s actually the Vikings leading the division this year… haha. I’m one damn happy camper right now.
I guess we should talk about what actually took place in the game…. nah; we’ll have time to do that. I feel like sitting out in front of my house and smoking that quarter of a cigar I have left, to celebrate not only this Bears win, but my son’s basketball win, and the Bulls win, that both preceded it. I would have to say… today was a good day. Bear Down!!!
