October 24, 2017: Keeping Pace

posted in: Bears | 1

I’m keeping pace with the Bears… At 3-4, I’m sitting in 7th place, just outside the playoff picture in my fantasy football league.  I figured it was time to check in.

The Cubs playoffs are over, and I’m not doing so horrible (actually, I think I have a really good team), so I’ll spend about 500 words updating you and giving you some fantasy tips to take back to your team.

First off, Matt Ryan is killing me.  I finally decided to address the QB situation…not wait until late in the draft, spending $1 on my starting QB.  I went after one of the top guys.  I won’t go after Brady or Rodgers because I don’t want them on my team.  So after them two, my choice was Matty Ice.  In general, I like him.  It sucks what happened to him and the Falcons in the Super Bowl… was hoping they came back firing on all cylinders.  Well, not so much.  The change in OC looks to be negatively impacting him.  I guess their current OC was drunk all the time at USC, from what I hear…Anyways, we’ve been winning with very average QB play at this point; it’s something I’m used to, but any time Ryan could start performing like a top 3 QB..  that would be great.

At RB, I was overloaded.  I had Cohen, Howard, Hyde, and Kamara.  I needed to make a move.  So I packaged up Cohen and underperforming WR Pryor for underperforming WR Amari Cooper.  Yes, the trade went through last week, so yes, I did get the benefit of Amari’s biggest week of the year.  Perfect timing for me; not so much for the other side of the trade… sorry bro!  Now with 3 RBs, I don’t have to make the decision to leave one on the bench.  I can play all 3, throwing 1 in the Flex position, OR if I wanted to bench 1, move a WR into the Flex.

With AJ Green, Cooper, and Diggs, my starters should be set… if Diggs would get healthy.  He killed me on MNF vs the Bears a couple weeks back as I sat there and watched the trainer rub his groin most of the game.  So I went out on the wire and picked up Zay Jones this past week… not so good of a move.  I thought he was due, and had a good matchup… I even told my nephew to pick him up in his league.  He did, but didn’t start him; no wonder he is undefeated in his league.  I did, but thankfully didn’t blow my matchup because of it.

The real nice surprises have been my defense, Jacksonville, and my TE, Engram.  I feel pretty good there, except of course this week, when they’re both on bye.  Time to head to the wire again…. not sure if I trust Hopper from ATL to fill in for Engram…. I may have to explore other options in the thin FA TE class.

I did scoop up Matt Forte as an emergency RB; can never have too many of them I guess… but now I may have to start him, and put myself right back in that 4 legit RB options situation.  I made another trade when I moved Jack Doyle for Allen Hurns; I should have started him last week instead of Zay, but he may get some tick at some point… but again, not this week due to the bye.

OK, there’s my update; barely 600 words, so don’t bitch at me for talking fantasy.  Back to our regular scheduled blogging; 2 Chicago teams in action tonight.  We’ll recap those games next.

1-6…not looking good at all with 6 weeks left. Need to pretty much win out or go 5-1. Actually liked my team this year. Dumped cooper and he goes off costing me a W. Seems like I’m losing some close games and playing teams that have outstanding weeks vs me. I think this always happens, or at least I feel that it does. Need some of that luck to turn my way to finish strong and maybe sneak into the playoffs. BEAR DOWN!!!
