Do you remember This Week in Baseball? I absolutely loved that show as a kid. With the voice of Mel Allen guiding us through some highlights from the week in baseball, the music that went along with it, the bloopers… it was TV gold. They don’t make them like they used to… In football, there used to be a show on HBO I believe that was pretty good, summing up this week in football. I know there are a million and one shows that talk about the NFL, but are there any as good as Inside the NFL (I remembered the name) used to be? Well, I’ll give it my best shot over the next 500 words or so. Summing up the NFL action for the week that was feels like it’s becoming a new feature.
It was another week full of surprises. Maybe you were surprised that the Bears won; I actually had a little money on them to win the game, so I was happily surprised. And while “the public” suffered on Sunday per Vegas information that I read, I had my best Sunday of the year. 6-0 with my NFL wagers! It’s weeks like this that I wish I was further down the path of my ” 2nd career”, and betting substantial amounts per game. Regardless, I was very happy. Yes, I took the Patriots plus the points; it would have been nice to take that ML too, but… trying not to be greedy. And by the way, what the heck is wrong with Buffalo??? I also had the Colts plus the points; what a wild, wild game that was. The feisty Colts and the unpredictable Brownies… maybe up for game of the week. I was leaning to both the Bucs and Commanders… but didn’t play either; I love when I don’t play one of my feels that loses, but it’s when I go oppo… and win… that’s when I know I’ve made it. The final early game featured a beatdown of the Lions by the Ravens in Baltimore; I didn’t touch that one either, but wow… that was a surprise to me too.
In the afternoon, things got better. I had the Steelers in LA; they came through for me again. And, of course, I had Denver over Green Bay, and no, not just because I hate the Packers with a passion or their QB sucks ass. It actually fit a trend that I’ve seen thus far in the NFL season. By the way, finding trends this year, at least what I’m looking at, ain’t easy. But this one… when the spread moves more than 2 points to the road team… now, with the Denver win, the home team is 4-0. The Seahawks and Chiefs (who I’m beginning to hate more and more each week) both won and covered late on games I had no action on. On Sunday night, I did something I rarely do; I played a total. The under of the Philly Miami game hit for me… barely, which finished my perfect NFL day.
Of course, I started with an L on Thursday night and the Saints, and… finished with an L w/the 49ers on Monday night. What the heck gives with them? I’m so, so glad I didn’t chase them in-game; I thought for sure they’d come back and at least win straight up. Nope. The Viqueens were victorious as Kirk Cousins played out of character in prime time.
The NFL has it all, doesn’t it? Superstars, close games, upsets, and that roller coaster ride each and every week that we all live for. They have it down pretty good, let me tell you. Can’t wait for next week’s edition of This Week in Football…
