October 20, 2022: Not On Our Watch

He was passed a long time ago… George Halas’ career coaching wins of 324 was the gold standard for a long, long time. This record stood until a certain guy named Don Shula, with the Colts and of course the Dolphins, came along, surpassed him, and set his own record of 347 total wins. Side note: Papa Bear has a better winning percentage by a hair. Now, there is another guy in the mix; his name: Bill Belicheck, or if you’d prefer, Belicheat?

Billy boy sucked with the Browns, his first stop in the NFL; of course his days with Brady in New England have went a bit different. Yeah, he’s piled up the wins (all of them fair or not, you be the judge), and piled up the wins (how many times can you get caught filming another team’s practice), and piled up the wins (some with deflated balls), and piled up the wins until he finally tied Papa Bear this past Sunday against, none other than his original team, the Cleveland Browns, although technically, they’re the Ravens, right? Anyways, that means he can move past Halas into the #2 all time spot all by himself with a win against our Bears this Monday night in Foxboro. Certainly this is inevitable, but to see him do it against us??? Not on our watch!!!

I can already see the broadcasters stroking him off all night, showing all kinds of BS… good God, as if they’re not bad enough. Pair this up with the current Bears team, and our recently great primetime performances… it’s a recipe for a tough night. We can change this though. The current version of the Pats doesn’t have Tommy Boy, but some guy named Zappy, and oh yeah, Mac Jones. They’re only 3-3; they’re certainly far from unbeatable. We could beat them on Monday night and postpone this for at least another week; hopefully Eberflus uses this to try to provide a little extra motivation for the boys; we need everything we can get.

Speaking about all-time coaching wins; I checked for the “other old guy”. I’m talking about the most famous coach of our rivals, Vince Lombardi. All those famous quotes, the first 2 Super Bowl wins, the Super Bowl trophy named after him. Certainly he’s one of the best coaches of all time, right? I’m sure he was good, but when I looked for him on the all-time list, I couldn’t find him. I kept scrolling down, and down, and hey… there he is. He’s at 45 overall, coming in with a cool 96 wins. Both Mikes, McCarthy and Holmgren, and their stadium namesake Curly Lambeau, are all ahead of him. Papa Bear has over 200 more wins than him!!! I’m sure he’s still one of the greatest, but… I can’t resist taking a shot at the Pack…

Not about them; not this Monday night. It’s about stopping history from happening, at least for another week. Moving into #2 on a list isn’t as noteworthy as getting to the top of that list, but it’s Papa Bear… it’s Belicheat… just ain’t right. Of course, I’d prefer to remember my favorite memory of the Pats; when they wore those throwback unis the other day, certainly reminded me of Super Bowl XX…. kicked their ass. Beating them on this potentially special night in Foxboro wouldn’t surpass MY list for #1, but may slide into #2 on it, for my favorite Patriot memories. Yeah, let’s do that; that sounds a lot better. Bear Down!!!
