For Dodger fans and all Cubs haters, it was a beautiful blaze. Once the grand slam left the park, it was a matter of time. Could the Cubs, who barely scored any runs all series, come back from this 7-0 deficit? Surely, anything is possible, but it was not meant to be. Once the smoke cleared, it was an 11-1 beat down that ended our season. The Cubs went out in a blaze of glory; I wouldn’t want it any other way.
If it was not meant to be this year, which at this point we know, and if there was a way to go out, this was the way. Make our season ending loss as ugly as possible. Make it as painful as possible. Celebrate on our field. Let us soak it in. I’m a glutton for this type of punishment. My wife asked me why I kept watching the game. I was nodding off in the 7th, but kept it on… kept trying to stay up. I was up into the 9th, when I took a long blink; when I opened my eyes, the Dodgers were celebrating in our place. It was complete; I went to bed.
I love that this is the way we went out because I think it’ll make us better in the long run. That feeling of getting blown out… that feeling of watching another team celebrate in beloved Wrigley Field; yes, I want the Cubs to get out of the matrix… to step away from baseball for a while… to decompress for sure, but I do not want them to forget how this feels. It’s the tale of two feelings.
We all remember how last year felt; we will never forget it. I don’t think any player or person associated with the Cubs can ever forget that. Now how does THIS feel? Honestly, it will never feel as bad as it once did, pre-World Series title; that’s just my truth. That pain of losing without ever having won was the ultimate in my Chicago sports fandom. The fact that we have finally won, helps ease the pain. It doesn’t take it away, don’t get me wrong. It still hurts… and I certainly know which feeling I prefer. I think we can all agree on that; I’m sure the entire team knows which feeling they want to experience again come the end of next season.
Yes, next season… that “wait until next year” is no longer a punch line. It’s honestly something to look forward to nowadays for us Cubs fans. Yes, we always looked forward to the next Opening Day when hope sprang eternal, but let’s be honest… most of those years it was a pipe dream. That is what has changed too… THAT is why I don’t hurt as much either. Because I KNOW (yeah, yeah, there are no guarantees, ok) that the Cubs will be right back in the middle of things come October 2018.

There are certainly many questions to answer, many things to do to get us in that position… to get us to that second season… to prepare us to get back to the World Series and win it all again. And I think we can all agree that we have the right people in charge to do that; we can trust them… that makes me feel better too. It’s all about trying to feel better right now, and I think I’m doing a damn good job of it…
I got up this morning, and still put my Cubs hat on… the one with the 2016 trophy on there. I will have to modify my plans a little bit. There will be no 2017 trophy to sew on this hat, but I still do plan on adding some; there is plenty of room. Will it be 2018, 2019, 2020? Yes, the repeat did not happen, but the dream of multiple titles is still a real one. I look forward to seeing that become reality.
Until then, life goes on. I will not go into hibernation for 3 months like I did back in 2003…back in 2008. I can still hold my head up proudly. The most regular season wins in the last 3 years of any team in the majors. The most postseason wins in the last 3 years of any team in the majors. 3 straight NLCS appearances. 1 World Series title. Although this is the end this year, I know this is not the end; I know we are still way closer to the beginning than the end.
Keep your heads up Cubs fans. I know it hurts…painful, frustrating, disappointing; those feelings are all natural, and especially now with the bar being raised to its highest point for this team. But we WILL be back. I will miss baseball; I will not watch any more this year. But spring training is right around the corner… we WILL be back. Go Cubs Go!!!

It is what we thought it was…….a sinking feeling, dejection, anger, sorrow,,,,all of the above with the complete range of emotions thrown in. We knew it was gonna be a tough series, as it’s supposed to be at this time of year. All the teams that were still playing are GOOD TEAMS. That’s why their here. I havent’ watched much of the other series, but watched lots and lots of the Cubs postseason. Watching the Dodger game, it was pretty evident that pitching was gonna win this one. Their pitching, added to the fact that most of the Cub bats ‘had holes in them’ (as my Dad used to say), was going to make it a one sided series.
Starving for baserunners, I have to wonder why every time they put a shift on, why didn’t that batter just lay one down. I’ve been wondering that all year. Are the egos too big? Do the hitters not want a ‘cheap’ base hit? Hell, a hit is a hit, just get on base! Isn’t that the name of the game? Nothing happens without base runners. Putting a few runners on by bunting against the shift once or twice, would eventually make them think against putting the shift on, thereby opening the rest of the field. How many hits would Rizzo have had if the 2nd baseman hadn’t been playing halfway into right field? Just sayin’…………..

Congrats to the CUBS this year and they will be in the hunt next year. This is not the CUBBIES of old, that phase is done and over with. CUBS have a lot of questions to be answered this offseason, like filling the SP, RP, what to do with a few players…i.e Hayward…but for now they should be focusing on pitching.
Last year I did not even notice winter in Chicago, this year will be different….
CUBBIES till I die!

Cubs went out by getting blown out. This is a much easier way to go than losing a heartbreaker. Yes, it sucks. Yes, it is disappointing. I stayed up to watch the whole thing but turned it off right after the last out…not going to watch another team celebrate at Wrigley. Now that the Cubs are out, baseball season is officially over. The series vs the dodgers was mainly a disappointment because of how poorly the Cubs played. For their bats to become invisible sucked. Credit to the dodgers, but the Cubs played nowhere near their capabilities while the dodgers played close to the best they can. All about being hot at the right time, and the Cubs never got warm. Congrats to the Cubbies for 3 straight post-seasons and 3 straight nlcs series. Wait until next year has a whole new meaning now. Yes, the Cubs have work to do in a lot of areas, but I trust in Theo to get things done right. Next year will bring back the core talent with some new pieces for Joe to gel as one so that the Cubs can get to the playoffs for a 4th year in a row and hopefully another World Series title! Thanks for another memorable year Cubs! GO CUBS GO!!!
