Sometimes I like to wait… After a big loss, I’m usually too disgusted to write about it right away. I need some time, to let it sink in, to cool down so as not to say something stupid. Sometimes writing when full of emotion can be the perfect time to do it; let’s try it.
I got in front of the TV right after Rizzo went deep. Yes, I had to work today; no, I didn’t take off. But yes, I did see the game from the 5th inning on. Now, sitting back at my desk, I need to talk about this.
Let’s start off with the silver lining; the season is not over. Definitely would not have thought this, but the Cubs got into the playoffs via the Wild Card; I guess we’ll have to do this the hard way. Because no matter what negative emotion is flowing through me right now, as long as the Cubs are alive, I believe they will win it all. We can thank 2016 for that feeling. All is not lost…
But yes, it was a tough loss. It’s kind of hard to win when only scoring 1 run. We’ve seen this too much from our Cubs. Via @ckamka, the stats God, only one team in the major leagues this year has scored 0 or 1 run more than the Cubs. That team… the Baltimore Orioles. Their record… 47-115. They accomplished this feat 40 times; the Cubs have done it 39 times. The Cubs are 48 games better than the Orioles. What does it all mean?
Well, it’s that boom or bust “quality” of the Cubs offense. Hard to understand with so much talent up and down the lineup. Yes, losing Kboom for 60 or so games definitely hurt, but heck, there were times when Baez was the only guy hitting; OK, Rizzo too… But come on… with all the guys up and down this lineup, you can’t put this on Theo or Joe; these guys have to hit, period. If we don’t, we will be going home for good after tomorrow night’s Wild Card game at Wrigley. If we do, we will see the Brewers again on Thursday. I really want to see them again…

This one game was necessary to decide the division; congrats to the Brewers for winning it. But, I feel like we need a whole series to settle this thing. A 7 game series would be preferable, but we’ll settle for a 5 gamer; that is the only way I’m going to be satisfied. If we lose then, then so be it; tip the cap. I’m feeling so unsatisfied right now…
First thing is first; win tomorrow. Simple really. No more providing excuses for losses; passing blame can be done all winter with a loss. No more “busting”… I thought we were done with that; we need to be done with that. It’s boom time! I don’t care how well or not Lester pitches tomorrow; we need to score more than 1 run. We may be facing Kershaw… I don’t care. It’s now or never.
It’s weird… to think that in about 30 hours the Cubs season could be over. I don’t like this feeling. I don’t like it one damn bit. This isn’t the way it’s supposed to go… But then again, we don’t really have a say in that do we?
I still believe this is our year, again. Losing a tiebreaker to Milwaukee doesn’t change that feeling. Entering the playoffs as a Wild Card doesn’t change that. The only thing that will change that is when we are officially eliminated. And please, let’s remember… we are still alive, ok? Save all your doom and gloom shit for another day… hopefully not tomorrow night. Whatever it takes. Go Cubs!

In my opinion, Joe overmanaged this one. He should have left Q in the game. 5 innings, 1 run, no walks, 3 k’s. He wasn’t in trouble, he was pitching pretty well, and for the most part, handling the Brewers. It wouldn’t made a difference with the Cubs bats, but I think the outcome could have been different.
On to the Wild Card. A longer road to travel, and 1 series from meeting the Brewers again! If they get there, they need to grab a lead to keep Hader off the mound.

And here the Cubs sit. Who would have thought that they would need to play a wild card game just to keep their season alive? I sure did not. But you know what, at least the Cubs get the chance. Yes, they had a chance yesterday to win the division and have home field throughout the nl and avoid this do or die game. They lost. The bats went silent again. Give it to the brewcrew, they have been playing great baseball…20-7 to finish the year and catch the Cubs. Congrats! And now go F yourselves! The Cubs will beat the rockies and see you up at Wrigley north on Thursday. Make sure yelich and braun keep ass shooting each other with those roids. The Cubs will get to hader and the pen, too. The Cubs have been here before. Yes, it is the hard way. Like kids, they want to always do things the hard way. So be it. It is not like they can’t do it. Beat the rocks, go up to dump city milwaukee and win that 5 game series to set up another nlcs with lala. No doom and gloom today. Hopefully, yesterday was the last kick in the ass that the Cubs need. All hands on deck tonight! Whatever it takes, whoever it takes. I believe. I know the Cubs believe. Go out there and get it done. The Cubs are not finished with the brewcrew yet and neither am I…but first, time to send the rocks on their vacation!
GO CUBS GO!!!
