October 2, 2016: Worse and Worser

posted in: Bears | 1

What an exciting football game we were treated to Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field.  You heard of the movie Dumb and Dumber… this was the Worse and the Worser.

Hey, the Bears won… I am happy… don’t get me wrong.  I’m just glad it was the Lions that came to Chicago.  I was kind of convinced it was a different Lions team… beating us 6 straight times… or maybe it was just a different Bears team.  They both seemed like one and the same on Sunday.  I’m just glad the Lions were a little worse on this day.

Actually, statistically, the Bears dominated.  First downs 23 to 16.  Total yard 408 to 263.  Even time of possession… 33 to 27.  They got 2 turnovers and didn’t turn the ball over.  That should have equalled an easy victory.  Well, it wasn’t easy but it was enough for the victory.  And in the NFL, that’s all we should care about.  Ugly or pretty, good team or bad team, a win is a win is a win.

I like the no turnover deal.  No Cutler no turnovers?  Yes, that is a true statement.  Stafford threw one INT especially for Cutler on this day.  It was the one where the WR ran the wrong route; it’s always the WR.  It may have been in this case, but it doesn’t really matter.  It kept a potential 3 points off the board, as the Bears held a 7-3 lead going into the half.  Exciting stuff.

Along with this, it also results in improved blood glucose levels, reduced stress levels, tadalafil overnight and improved overall energy. The Bears could have had 3 more points, but our new FG kicker missed again.  On this day, where the game ticket stub featured Robbie Gould, Sarah Connor missed another.  He sucks.  OK, well, he finally made one later in this one… about damn time.  Still, it pisses me off every time I see that guy march out there and miss.

The special teams almost killed us late in this one.  Giving up a punt return for a TD when the Lions were dead, gave them a little life.  And then the on-side kick… well, the officials didn’t wait to see the final result of the ball bounding around, as they called a penalty on the Lions for illegal touching.. it wasn’t as bad as the one they called against them that setup our first TD; their LB just looked stunned when they called that interference call on him.  It looked like Vegas was on our side this week, and that’s never a bad thing.

Again, who cares?  The Bears won and I’m happy.  I don’t know what this means for the rest of the season, besides the fact that the Bears will not go win less.  The defense was good.  That I am truly happy about.  They are young for the most part, and aren’t healthy, so they can only get better, right?  Well, it was the Lions.

And what about the QB position?  Is Cutler back next week?  Will he start?  It looks like Howard will continue as the Bears starting RB; he looked good too.  As did Kevin White… about time, well, it’s only his 4th game.  Will we look for an upward trend the rest of 2016?  I’m not signing up for that.  I’m just happy not to be pissed off after this week’s Bears game; what more can I ask for.  Way to go Bears.

Hoyer at qb for the rest of the year, please. Dont really care how he plays, just dont want cutler playing any longer. Hoyer did his job…300+ and 2 tds with no turnovers. Cant ask for much more.
Howard looks to be the starting rb for next week if not the rest of the year…100+ yards.
White had a good game but got injured. Must be hanging out with alshon too much.
The D did their job…bend but dont break. Liked what I saw from them. Young and only getting healthier.
Special teams sucks. Conner barf misses again. Go figure. And a late punt return for a td??? Come on Bears. I did think a block in the back was not called, though.
All in all, a win is a win is a win. Way to get in the win column Bears. A trip to indy awaits against a very beatable colts team. String some Ws together Bears! BEAR DOWN!!!
