October 18, 2018: No Repeat

I guess this title could have meant a few things over the recent years in Chicago sports.  In 2017, after the Cubs got knocked out by the Dodgers, I could have said this.  In 2016, 2014, or 2011, whether it was the Blues, Kings, or Canucks, each year after the Hawks won the Cup, it ended with these two words:  No Repeat.  But why would I go down that path?  The Cubs were pretty thoroughly outplayed, but in each of the Blackhawks cases it was 7 games.  The great comeback against Vancouver that came up short, same with LA, and then the battle with St. Louis.  The one that hurt the most to me was against the Kings.

It’s not easy to repeat.  We were a bit spoiled in the 90s with the Bulls.  Forget repeats, how about two separate 3 peats!?!?!  Yeah, that was something.  I wonder if we’ll see another repeat for one of our teams again soon.  The best chance probably lies with the Cubs, although baseball with 162 in a season is pretty hard to repeat, although maybe hockey is the hardest sport to do it in?  If the Hawks win again, it’s probably the last for this team.  The Bulls are nowhere close, ditto for the Sox; now if the Bears win it all this year, they can do it sooner than anybody next year.  Hell, forget about the repeat; let’s just get another, any of them…

No, this title is penned with the Houston Astros in mind.  Maybe if Dallas Keuchel didn’t run his mouth early in the season, saying this Astros team is better than the Cubs; there will be no World Series hangover.  Not sure how you define hangover, but the Cubs definitely had it; the Astros not so much.  Yet, the end results were the same; no repeat!

Boston looks pretty dominant, which is a good thing for salvaging this season.  I will be happy with whatever team loses in the NLCS, and then hopefully happy one more time when Boston beats the winner.  But first thing is first, bye bye Astros.  Shouldn’t have been running your mouth, and maybe you wouldn’t have so many people ready to rub your face in it.  Don’t mind a little crap talk… that’s all good.  But if you can’t back it up, then be ready to get it right back.

Until next year Houston; maybe we’ll meet up to decide which one of us gets to 2 first.  That would be fun.  Until then Houston, join us on the couch to watch the rest of the playoffs; there’s plenty of room.

Nothing against the asstros but their trash talking about the Cubs. So sorry, not sorry…hahaha. Welcome to your vacation watching the world series instead of playing in it. I feel bad, too, because my nephew is an asstros fan. Oh well, it is very hard to repeat in sports, especially baseball with the long 162 game season. So many things can and usually do happen to prevent the repeat. So an asstros vs Cubs world series next year sounds good. As for this year, the red sux have been the best team all year so hoping they beat lala. Back to back world series losses? Sounds good to me!
