The Cubs just lost a postseason game. They fell 1-0 to the Dodgers in Wrigley in Game 2 which evens the series at one. And you know what? I’m not freaking out.
I’m taking this loss in stride. I am trying to understand that the Cubs will lose games this postseason. This will not be easy, any way you cut it. There will be ups, and there will be downs. It’s like a 162 game season crunched into less than 20. After all, if the Dodgers didn’t win this game, what kind of series what this have been? NOW, it’s a series.
Forget who said it, maybe it was from all the Blackhawks postseason runs, but a series doesn’t truly start until a team wins on the road. The Dodgers have taken home field advantage with this win; why am I not having a melt down right now?
This is definitely a different feeling for me as a Cubs fan… in the postseason. Dare I say, I have some confidence in this Cubs team; that I DO believe this will be the year. Scary to write those words, but I am still feeling pretty good. After all, it was Kershaw.
The one guy that I feared on this Dodgers team more than anyone. If we were to face Kershaw 3 times in a series, which is a very good possibility the longer this series goes on, THAT is scary. Kershaw wins round one. The good thing is, we will not see him until Game 5 at the earliest. The good thing is, we will face Rich Hill in Game 3 in LA. Yeah, now you know why I’m not feeling so bad?
We have to chalk this one up. I hope we learned something, because we WILL see him again, and who knows what the series will be at then. I’d like to think the Cubs grab the next two before facing off with Kershaw again. But what if we split? And it’s a decisive Game 5 vs this beast. Or worse yet, yeah, let’s not go there… like I said, I’m not too worried right this second.

I actually listened to a bit of the pregame, and they nailed it on the head. The question was would the Cubs be patient or go after Clayton. The Cubs patience has been their strength all year; taking pitches, running up pitch counts, taking walks, getting starters out of the game early. There was one problem with this approach against Kershaw; he throws strikes…he doesn’t walk anybody. Did you see those walk numbers? It was strength against strength, and Kershaw prevailed. Maybe we should have went oppo… and hacked at anything in the zone. Lesson learned boys; be students of the game. We just got schooled; how a team reacts to that, is the true testament.
In a 7 game series, teams settle in for a long battle. It’s not like the one and done wild card, or even the short, scary, unsatisfying 5 game series. It’s potentially 7 games in a row vs one team. You get to know them. You should be learning on every single AB. Adjustments are key. Obviously you don’t want to go away from what got you here, but making adjustments, and it may only be 1 or 2, could be the key to the series.
It was the chess match in Game 1 which we came out on top. In game 2, Roberts just sat his ass in the dugout, and let his 2 best pitchers do their thing. That was a smart move Dave. Nicely played.
There was no need to get fancy here. No wonder the Dodgers claimed confidence heading into Game 2; they knew who was on the mound.
It’s tip your hat time, but at the same time, know in your head that when we see you again, things will be different. Go to school on this boys, and get some rest. Heading to the west coast for 3 games; how will we return back to Chicago? I can’t wait to find out. Let’s go Cubs!!!

Kershaw is who we thought he was…a top tier left handed ace. He pitched a hell of a game, and the Cubs could not crack him. As good as he threw, he is beatable. Yes, he does not walk people, aside from rizzo in the 7th. He throws strikes on both sides of the plate. Only 2 hits for the Cubs but multiple balls hit hard…baez to the deepest part and zobrilla to the track come to mind. Learn and adjust for next time because the Cubs will see him again, at least 1 more time. I am confident that we will beat him just as I said previously.
So the Cubs lose their first home game this postseason and head to la even. Disappointing, yes. Earth shattering, no. The Cubs will win in la…even if it is just 1 game, they will get back to Wrigley. I would love to sWeep la in their ballpark, and that has to happen now for my prediction to be correct. Either way, just win the series…basically, best of 5 now and la has home field…1 win there changes that, and I am confident in the Cubs getting at least 1, but probably more. So take today to breath and relax Cubs and fans. Back at it tomorrow where we win on the road with Jake at the helm!
GO CUBS GO!!!

If the Cubs want to beat Kershaw, and I think they can, they need to swing the bat. Not any real magic here. You know he’s almost always around the plate, and allows very few walks. That being said, swinging at almost anything close is a safe bet for some contact. Nothing is going to happen if you don’t swing the bat. Again, no secret there. Cubs come home up 3-2 and win it in 6!
