October 12, 2022: Week 6 vs Commanders

An early Week 6 preview for an early Week 6 Thursday night game for our Bears hosting the Washington Commanders. Yes, that’s no typo; no more Redskins, or Washington Football Team. It’s the Commanders. You’d think they would have came up with something a little better, no? I thought Warriors would have been cool. I know they would have shared that name with the NBA team in Golden State, but that’s not uncommon. Giants, Cardinals are just a couple off the top. Anyways, whatever they’re calling themselves nowadays shouldn’t matter; the Bears should ride the positive mojo, if that’s possible in a loss, into this week and kick their ass, remaining unbeaten at home.

There’s a place to start: winning football games in your home stadium. If Eberflus is trying to develop his culture with the Bears, this should include defending your home turf. Winning in the NFL is not easy; winning on the road in the NFL is harder. Thus, by default, it should be easier to win games in which you have homefield advantage. Of course the opponent matters… The Niners, looking really good right about now, were the first team we beat at home; good timing on that one I think. The Texans were up next; it wasn’t pretty, and they ain’t that good, but we got the W… that’s all that matters. Enter in another team that isn’t all that great with Washington, and another familiar face at head coach in Ron Rivera. At 1-4, the Commanders are ripe for the picking. If the Bears are going to build up positive momentum in this season of rebuilding, it should start with beating those teams, few as they may be, that are worse than us. We get another chance this week.

Papa Vegas seems to be setting us up again. Like that Houston line of -3, this -1 over Washington has me salivating; is Papa trying to get us hook, line, and sinker again? Washington has some injuries on offense, an offense like ours, that isn’t that loaded, to be nice. Carson Wentz at QB doesn’t scare me; I am wondering when Jaylon Johnson will return though. It’d be nice to have him back in the mix. Sounds like he will be back; that’s huge. Of course, on defense, we’ll have to continue to focus on improving our run defense. The 2nd half vs the Vikings was a good start, overall for our defense. Let’s really clamp down this week.

On offense, we need WRs who can catch the ball (not Pettis) and not do stupid shit (like that other guy). Mooney made a highlight reel catch. Although that was awesome to watch, I would like him to try to get 2 hands on the ball going forward. Kmet has shown a few signs of breaking out. Monty is back on the ground; should be stronger this week. Fields… keep on building buddy. Why do I feel like the Bears will kick their ass?

Final Score Predictor: Bears 27 Commanders 13

Ace in the Hole: Bears defense– 5 sacks, 2 INTs, 1 TD

The “Baby Bears”… is that OK to call this rebuilding team?… will look to add another W to the resume. That would bring us to 3-3, which isn’t top notch by any means, but for this season’s measuring stick… is a pretty decent first third of the season. Bear Down!!!
