October 10, 2017: It’s a Marathon

You ever hear that term “it’s a marathon not a sprint?”  This is true, so true.

Speaking of marathons, my mother in law just ran the Chicago one.  That was a very nice accomplishment.  I just couldn’t believe the thousands of people running it.  I saw someone with a T-Rex costume, Superman, and someone running barefoot a la Apocolypto.  The weather was pretty warm.  I couldn’t even imagine.  I did run a half marathon a couple years back…barely.  Double that?!?  No way; never say never though…

Anyways, that statement which is true for the regular season in baseball, is true in life too.  This whole summer we’ve been going through the Condo selling/Home buying process; it hasn’t always been fun.  From one thing to another, the process has been exhausting.  Finally, we made it; it’s closing day.

After dropping off my son, and leaving the Condo for the last time, my wife and I had the day to ourselves; it was nice.  We made a handful of stops, which included a very nice lunch.  Damn I wish I didn’t have to work; I could get used to days like this.  Then it was off to grab our son, drop him off at my parents, and head to the closing.

The closing was scheduled for 4pm, the same time as Game 4 of the NLDS; at least it wasn’t the World Series.  But the heavens opened, and the rain began to pour; the game was cancelled, and our closing finished.  We were now home owners!  I didn’t miss the game either…

So the rain continued, and continued…we got soaked but it was all good.  We moved some stuff in, got soaked some more, but it was all good.  This particular marathon had come to an end.  We finally made it.

Still in the city of course, not sure I’ll ever leave, but that’s what I said before moving to California.  You just never know what could and will happen.  Trust the Process is what some say.  I say everything happens for a reason.

We can try our very best; do everything in our power to make things happen.  At the end of the day, we realize time and time again, how little power we have.  But at the end of the day, I have absolutely no complaints.

It worked out as it was supposed.  Today was our dog’s birthday.  She’ll be about as happy as anybody, finally having that yard of her own.  The home that we wanted, we got.  Life is good. I like marathons.
