October 1, 2016: Another Feature

I don’t think there is anything I would rather write about than what I do today, or is there?  I like writing period, probably already guessed that; couple that with my passion of Chicago sports and it works.  Could write about a range of topics, but you’d probably tell me to get back to sports.  If there is one other thing that I could write about, another one of my passions, it would be food.

I took Friday off from work; it was a good opportunity to go out to breakfast with the family.  We were headed to Lincoln Park Zoo to see the new attraction:  12 penguins… Polar Bears soon to follow.  Before getting there, needed to find some place to eat.  Usually stick to places that I know, but this time, wanted to try something new… well, sort of.

We had been to Hashbrowns before.  The first visit was the one on Maxwell street; it was a good one.  My wife and I went there, and we liked it.  It’s not hard for us to like a place to eat.  Heck, I’ll eat just about anything.  So, in searching the area on the way from downtown to Lincoln Park Zoo, we saw another Hashbrowns location on Division and Wells.  Figured it would be just as good.  That was my first mistake.

Walking into the restaurant, it looked good enough.  As we sat down to look at the menu, I told my wife I should write restaurant reviews.  It could be another feature on this website.  Every restaurant I visit, another review entered into the archives.  Ok, ok.. don’t get too excited yet.  It was funny that I suggested that, considering the food to follow.

My son’s was great; kids chocolate chip pancakes.. can’t F that up.  I like to order omelettes at breakfast, and they had a good assortment.  I ordered the Taylor Street, which was with Italian Sausage, mozzarella, and tomato sauce.  The Italian Sausage part of the description was a lie.  There was like 4 little pieces of sausage in this big ass omelette.  Still, I plowed through it, cleaning the plate.  My food wasn’t that bad.. it wasn’t that good either… but the fact that it was missing the meat, pissed me off.  Where’s the beef!?!?!  My wife’s was worse.

Her choice, the Bridgeport omelette, was with steak, mozzarella, and cheddar; I had looked at that myself.  Same type of thing… about 4 tiny pieces of steak in the entire omelette.  Her hashbrowns choice was sweet potato; usually pretty tasty.  These were horrid… and this place was called Hashbrowns!!!  My wife barely touched her food.  She’s not quite like me when it comes to eating, but it has to be pretty bad for her not to eat it.  When the waitress came by, she told her it wasn’t good, and gave the plate back; she also asked for another piece of toast.

Thankfully, the waitress came through.  She took my wife’s meal off the bill, and of course didn’t charge us for the extra toast.  Her tip was unaffected by the poor food.  Still, I was disappointed.

How can you screw up breakfast?  Well, Hashbrowns on Division and Wells did.  It is affiliated with the other location, but is nothing like it.  Do NOT go there.  Take your chance with anywhere else.

OK, how’s that?  Is this the start of something?  Probably not… not now at least.  Too much going on… especially now… with the playoffs a mere 6 days away.  It was a nice break, but no more necessary at this point.  Maybe I’ll only write about the crappy restaurants I go to; hopefully this is the last one then.  Onwards and upwards…
