November 9, 2022: Fantastic Five

Isn’t it nice to be excited about the Bears again? Sure, the wins aren’t coming yet, but the future seems bright. And yes, we have been here before, but have we really? The big difference this time around is the QB. If Justin, the reigning NFC player of the week, can continue to shine, and continue to get better, we may have something. If so, it’ll be nice to be back in the mix of the top NFL teams in the next couple years. Don’t want to count my chickens too soon, but yeah, feels good.

The only thing in the NFL that is better than the Bears winning is…. if you know me, you know what I’m about to say… the Packers losing. How about that fantastic five? Although we’re not being “warmed up” by the Bears wins yet, the active losing streak of the most hated team is keeping me warm inside. You know how long I’ve waited to see this day? Sure, they’re not dead yet; with Rodgers, they’ll always have a chance to be losers in the NFC Championship game, but man… when have the Packers lost 5 in a row in our lifetime?

Well, funny you should ask; I finally got around to looking it up. We can rule out the last 3 years because they didn’t lose 5 games TOTAL for the entire season; bastards. The 2 seasons before that they actually had losing records, but only got to a 3 game losing streak in each of those seasons. Although they were 10-6 in 2016, they did lose 4 games in a row. In 2013, they did go on a 5 game winless streak, but there was a tie in there, so that’s out. Found it! In 2008, the Packers ended the season on a 5 game losing streak, before winning their final game; it’s been 14 years!!! How about six in a row??? Anyone want to go six???

Well, the last time the Packers lost 6 in a row… it wasn’t there 4-12 season in 2005 or 1991; only got to 4 in a row in those years. Technically, it happened between 1990 and 1991, where they lost the last 5 games in 1990 and the first 2 in 1991; 7 in a row! But how about in the same season??? Well, have to go back to their 4-12 season in 1988 to find that. They had impressive losing streaks of both 5 and 7 games in that season… very nice. Why am I getting so excited looking this Packers’ losing stuff up???

Did I say I’ve been waiting forever to see this? Sure, they still have a HOF QB at the helm, but to see the Packers lose… man… it’s been a minute. Growing up, it was a regular thing; I loved it. Now, finally, all these years later, are we finally getting back to the good old days??? Well, in order for them to be truly good old days, the Bears need to win; not only beat the Cheese, but make the playoffs on a consistent basis, and sprinkle in a Super Bowl or two. Not quite there yet, but the ship seems to be finally turning, no?

OK. So while I certainly will be a Cowboys fan (ugh!) for this upcoming Sunday to see the Packers streak hit 6, I’ll be more interested in the Bears beating the Lions. After all, if the Bears are finally starting to gain some momentum, losing to the Lions would be a setback. The wins need to be a part of this; there won’t be many the rest of THIS year, but certainly the Lions, right? Well, they did beat the Packers last week… pathetic… Bear Down!!!
