November 9, 2018: Week 10 Preview Lions at Bears

posted in: Bears | 0

Welcome to the start of division play.  After week 1 vs Green Bay, which we will not be talking about, we have not played anyone within our division.  Starting Sunday, we’ll have 3 straight weeks of division fun.  3 games in 12 days to be accurate.  Are you ready?

The real question is if the Bears are ready; they are certainly getting healthier.  It appears as though Allen Robinson, and more importantly, Khalil Mack will be back on the field on Sunday.  And the Lions, coming off a couple beat downs in a row, including giving up 10 sacks last week, appear more vulnerable than ever.  Then why when looking at the line for this week do I feel a little worried?

If you don’t follow the Vegas odds and/or have never gambled on a game, then you don’t know.  But when I see the Bears as 6.5 point favorites on Sunday, I feel a bit worried.  That line is almost begging for Bears money, and when the money pours in on one side, that’s not a good thing.  You see all the experts’ pick?  Yep, pretty much everybody on the Bears.  That is concerning.

Yet, I do feel it will be a close game, because we are playing back within the division; those games are always hard fought.  To play this Detroit team two times in 12 days will not be easy, regardless of how we have been playing, regardless of how they have been playing, regardless of what our records are.  Yes, I wasn’t completely right… the game against the Bills was another “easy” one, like the game against the Bucs earlier this year.  Still weird to watch the Bears kick ass like that, but… I still feel that most of the games will be battles.  Yes, I know we play the Giants and the Niners later this year.  We cannot take any game, any team for granted, home or away.  I feel like a broken record.

So if the Minnesota Vikings got 10 sacks against the Lions, how many will we get?  You have to like our defense in this matchup, especially now that the Lions have shipped Golden Tate to the Eagles.  We’ll definitely have to keep an eye on the running game, but Stafford… he’s like Cutler to me in a way.  He may have a better attitude and maybe better leadership skills (not sure though, although a stiff wet blanket would have more leadership skills than Jay), but he always seems to F things up.  A late pick… a late fumble by him I feel will seal the deal.

On offense, now that we have incorporated more Jordan Howard into the offense (of course after I traded him in fantasy football, but that’s OK… maybe that’s what it took), I feel a little more balanced, and that’s a good thing… that’s what we’ll need to win the big ones.  Yes, I do trust Mitch can come through when he needs to, but we can’t rely only on him; he will make mistakes too.  Nagy needs to call a smart game plan, we need balance, we need to protect the ball, and let our playmakers (yeah, we actually have some of those now) make some plays.  The scary thing… we may have to rely on Parkey to make a kick in this one…

Final Score Prediction:  Bears 27 Lions 23

Ace in the Hole:  Tarik Cohen 100+ total yards & 2 TDs

Was supposed to play a card game this Sunday with some of my original friends in this world, but that got cancelled.  My son asked me if the Bears were playing at home this week vs the Lions.  I said yes.  He said we should go.  We don’t really have the money for it, but… maybe this is his first Bears game?  I’ll be watching ticket prices closely over the next couple days… Bear Down!

Alrighty, finally a comment before the actual game. I agree in the belief that this will be a close game. I love all of the confidence in the Bears, and why not, their D is something to believe in. Yes, the lions are a division opponent and a definite step up from the jets and bills, but this is a game the Bears should win. Not to look ahead, but the Bears have 3 straight division games in 12 days, including the vikes coming off their bye week, so they will be ready. The Bears should be ready on Sunday to move to 6-3. A healthy Mack will be large as will Robinson back on the offensive end. I love how MTru distributes the ball on offense without locking in on 1 receiver…just keep finding the open ones. Do not turn the ball over and rely on the D to make some plays.

    Bears 30, lions 20

I think it will be a 3 point game until a late turnover and/or td by the D seals it. My ace in the hole is going to be Jordan Howard. He will finally crack the 100 yard mark with another td in this one. Enjoy the game if you go. I’ll be watching comfortably from my couch! BEAR DOWN!!!

No question that this game ‘should’ belong to the Bears, but……….if we’ve learned anything over the years, bet with your head not your heart. Stay off the home team unless they’re a Juggernaut. The Bears may be on the way to becoming one, but they’re not there yet. I’ll pick them this week, and probably more weeks than not the rest of the regular season. But, you never know which Bears team is gonna show-up. I like them, they are fun to watch again, but they’re still not ‘tough game’ proven, which makes them unpredictable.

Defense should domain again!! Offense will take a step back. Lions have had plenty of time to watch.

    MVP: Bears D!
