November 9, 2017: Just Average?

Say it ain’t so.  I just know… I know, know, know, that the Blackhawks are NOT just average, right?

After the loss on Thursday night, the Hawks are 500.  At 7-7-2, they are just that, average, through the first almost 20% of the season.  What happened to the 10 goal per game scoring Hawks that we saw on opening night against the Pens?  Heck, we’ll even take that 5 goals they scored in Game 2 against the Blue Jackets.  Heck, we’ll take 1 goal…

They’ve scored 12 goals in the past 7 games; 5 of those games were losses.  Oh yeah, and 2 of those 12 goals were empty netters.  So actually 10 goals scored against a goalie in the past 7 games; that’s a 1.43 average.  That’s no good.  What happened to the offense?

I’ll admit, I haven’t been watching that closely.  I try to catch some of the game… I do know if they win or lose.  Maybe I need to start taking a closer look.  I know Seabrook can’t be that bad, can he?  I surely know Toews is not done, right?  Has the window closed on this Hawks team?

I have to see it with my own two eyes.  With these Hawks, this decade’s team, I believed in them all the way until the season was officially over.  Yes, going down big in the playoffs usually meant an exit after it was all said and done, but I had the ultimate faith in them.  With the skill, leadership, and coaching, you couldn’t tell me anything different.  Plus, they’d proven it to us, time and time again; actually 3 times.  But now… now this team is gone?

I can’t believe it.  I have to believe it’s just a tough stretch that I haven’t witnessed period by period.  I have to believe this team is still gelling… that gelling process that really never completed last year.  Sure hope it all comes together soon.

I mean, the playoffs are still a given, right?  Well, as of right now, the Blackhawks would be out of the playoffs.  It is only 20% of the way into the season; yes, I know… it’s 20% of the way into the season!!!  Surely the best hockey is ahead of us.

Maybe I’ve just become complacent; hoping that’s not what’s happened to the team too.  I just know the Hawks will be there in the playoffs, and I just know they’ll have a good showing; last year was a fluke in that aspect.  To think that they may not make the playoffs is foreign to me; I cannot compute that in my head.  Like I said, I need to start watching more.

Hey, I know Crow has been good, so that’s a plus…  No more of that crazy talk about Crow, right?  Well, at least we can say that for one guy.  And that’s good considering our next opponent.  Yes, Carolina and our ex-goalie Scott Darling; surely we’ll be able to score against him?  Come on Scott, do us a solid.

Damn, just realized I won’t be able to watch that game either; maybe it’s time to record them?  I need to watch more because I just can’t believe that our Hawks are the average team that their record at this point in the year indicates.  No way, no how.  They’re just starting slow… yeah, that’s it… right?  Go Blackhawks!

Bhawks playing average hockey. When you are not scoring the puck, you will not win games…pretty simple. Crow has been great. Even the few games with Forsberg in net seem like he is decent. For some reason, the Bhawks are having trouble scoring. It does not make sense to me with the talent and skill levels, but it never did for their power play either. So what does it mean? I will cut them some slack for now. Gelling time is needed. Finding the right line combos is big, too. No need to worry just yet. Let’s see where this team is at the halfway point. Are they missing a piece? Will a trade or two be needed? Hold those thoughts. Give the Bhawks 40 games to gel and get things straightened out. In the meantime, beat the hurricanes and darling! GO BHAWKS!!!
