Welcome to the worst primetime game of the year. The 2nd and 3rd worst teams in the NFL will face off on this Amazon Prime Thursday night tilt. It just doesn’t get any worse, really. And, and… to think that the Bears may actually lose this game… sick.
Vegas sees these teams as even, favoring the Bears by 3, 3.5; we still get 3 points for home field advantage right? That’s crazy to think about it, although if we’re comparing QBs… without Justin Fields in the conversation, Bryce Young vs Tyson Bagent? I know Bagent has done some good things and appears to be serviceable, and I know Bryce Young has looked bad, but… I’d have to lean Bryce. Speaking about Fields… did you see that Eberflus press conference? I didn’t even want to watch it, but it kept coming up, and… I gave in. I’m not in the camp of fire Eberflus right now, but… after watching this… the guy just doesn’t seem competent. He can’t even give a clear answer, although, hear me out, maybe this is by design. After all, if Fields were to play, that line would almost certainly shift to the Bears. Now that Eberflus stumbled through some words basically saying Fields is out although he’s officially doubtful… the line leaned back towards Carolina. I wouldn’t be surprised if at the last minute, Fields plays, and the Bears rout them, but if it’s Bagent vs Bryce, well… coin toss.
How bad will this game be? The Bears defense is better than Carolina no? DJ Moore against his ex-team; that has to be good for us right? I don’t even know what to think. Like I’ve said, talking about the Bears is exhausting at this point, and I have no expectations.
Final Score Prediction: Panthers 7 Bears 6
Ace in the Hole: Matt Eberflus
Am I serious? Matt Eberflus ace in the hole? Yes, and hear me out. We want to fire this dude, why? He coached the Bears to perfection last year, securing the #1 overall pick after a Lovie favor in Houston. This year, we were all ready for the Bears to make a quantum leap, but we were wrong. We were wrong because Poles wants one more huge draft, and Eberflus is the perfect guy to deliver it to him. Why blame Matt for doing what his boss wants? He still has the support of Ryan Poles, although David Ross still had Jed Hoyer’s support too… Not sure if most folks will get their wish and Eberflus will get ejected after this primetime debacle, but outside of the pubic eye, in private, Poles is celebrating, salivating about not one but TWO top 5 draft picks with one of the best classes of QBs coming out in a while. If you thought we got the haul last year, just wait… The only problem is, are we settled at the QB position? Maybe they already have their answer there too, and we just don’t know it. Maybe I’m just hoping there is some smart reason why the Bears are so bad again… there’s got to be something, right? Bear Down…
