November 8, 2019: Week 10 Lions at Bears

What I wouldn’t give for a Bears win…

How does it feel to win a game in the NFL?  I’m starting to forget.  I desperately need a reminder.  And no, don’t tell me just ask the recent opponents of the Chicago Bears.  Although that would be true, that just pisses me off.  This was supposed to be our year.  You know, the 100th anniversary of the Bears, which just so happens to be the 100th anniversary of the NFL too.  One of the storied franchises was primed for a great year coming off their 12-4 last season.  Well, at 3-5, we now know, that we will have a worse regular season record this time around.  That doesn’t necessarily matter if the Bears were to storm back and make the playoffs, but how likely is that at this point?  Yes, mathematically, sure… the Bears could go anywhere from 8-0 to 6-2 and have a shot to make the playoffs.  But the thing is… we can’t even go 1-0.  We can’t even win 1 fricking game right now; how are we going to win 6?  Maybe it’s like if the Bears win one game, the rest will come… if they could just get one win, it will do wonders for this team mentally, and maybe they can go back to being a good NFL team.  Because what we’ve been watching for the last month, is anything but that.

It just goes to show you nothing is guaranteed.  Coming into this year, the 2nd year in Nagy’s system for Trubisky and the offense, the return of essentially the same defense roster wise, a new and improved field goal kicker who made it through the gauntlet… yeah, coming into this season, expectations were sky high.  It feels worse falling flat when we were supposed to be riding high.  At this point, most of us thought at the worst, we’d be 5-3… at the worst!  It’s amazing how quick a team can fall… After that Vikings win, I was sure feeling great.  At 3-1, the Bears were primed to go to the bye week at 4-1 with an easy game against the Raiders in Week 5.  Well, since that Vikings win, which is the entire month of October, the Bears have not recorded one single win.  Going winless in a calendar month is not the blueprint to making the postseason.  It’s a recipe for disaster, which is a pretty good definition of the current state of the Bears.

You listen to the radio, you read stuff online… it’s all bad; there’s nothing good.  Nagy should be fired, Trubisky should be benched, Pace should be canned for drafting Trubisky… just a little taste.  Sure, it sounds like we want blood, but it’s only because we really can’t believe what’s happening.  This has gotten so ugly, so quick…  Do anything else than what we’ve been doing; put any other player in the game besides the ones that are in there.  Find some kind of spark.  Like the 40 year old virgin, when the guy was telling him how to tackle a gazelle and get a drunk chick, and he responded “it doesn’t feel right”.  Well, what feels right hasn’t been working; try a little wrong.  In other words, what the Bears have been doing, hasn’t been working; try something different.  It’s hard to believe that on that coaching staff, in that locker room, there are not folks who are smart enough to realize that, folks who have the talent to do something different.  This thing has snowballed… We need to stop the bleeding.

A home date against Detroit will certainly do that, right?  I can’t even believe that.  I looked at the line and saw Bears -3 at home against the Lions, which is all you need to know about the Bears right now.  They’re considered even with Detroit, which most of the time is not a good place to be.  With the confidence level at an all time low, playing against a team that we destroyed last year, the game I was at with my son, doesn’t even convince me that we can get a win this week.  I remember that game pretty clearly… Trubisky looked great; the Bears offense looked tremendous.  That’s what we have to look forward to… what happened?

Final Score Prediction:  Lions 27 Bears 16

Ace in the Hole:  Lions defense which will stifle the Bears offense, which doesn’t make them special, just makes them like every other team in the NFL.

Yeah, that’s where I’m at.  It’s not a good place.  That deep down place inside where I feel one win could turn this ship around… it’s fading, yet I think, what I wouldn’t give for a Bears win… come on… Bear Down!
