November 7, 2024: Number Nine

Finally… we were finally able to watch our first Bulls game of the season; it was game number nine for the Bulls hosting the Timberwolves on Thursday night at the UC. No, CSN and Comcast didn’t cut a deal; we didn’t buy an antenna or head to a bar/restaurant. Screw it… to finally watch the Bulls play we bought tickets to the game. Off to the UC for our first game of the year.

The Bulls are not a good team, let’s be clear. Yes, I have been missing being able to watch them play at home with the fam, but have I really been missing watching the Bulls shit the bed night in night out? I’ve been saving myself some stress I think, but now… I got to see that live and in person… even better! The game started off well enough. We were hot from 3 point land. Sure, we continued with our conscious decision to not play defense, but we were shooting more three pointers!!! This is the number one goal this year, seemingly for every player and every NBA team; anybody wonder why ratings are down? But hold on, we were actually MAKING them this time!!! Yes, this hot shooting continued throughout the evening, but the lack of defense finally caught up to us in the 4th quarter, when Minnesota scored 45 points… yes, 45 points in one quarter!!! We only scored 24 and ended up taking the L by a 135-119 score. Giving up 135 points in a game is not very good. Still, we cheer them on…

While in the house, I will yell throughout the game. First time, it was at the referee who T’d up Giddy almost immediately as the game started. I yelled “AIRBALL” when Anthony Edwards chucked up a three that missed everything. Every time the opponent goes to the free throw line, I will yell… trying to distract them… as if they could really hear me, but hey… put my voice with 10,000 others and… It’s kind of like voting; you may feel like your vote doesn’t matter, but… it does. Shit, I’m in the house, I paid money for these tickets to see MY team play, I’m going to get my money’s worth… regardless if my team is good or bad. At some point during the game, I started to hear someone cheer the other team on… she was sitting behind us somewhere; I didn’t care. She was pretty annoying though; the guys in front of us took a glance back a couple times… still, I didn’t care. As the Wolves took over down the stretch, it started getting a little more annoying… her screaming and cackling like a damn hyena; still, I resisted… don’t turn around… don’t say something. Why not? This is OUR house. You come talking like that in OUR house? As the game concluded, and the final horn sounded, I heard her say “well, I guess the better team won”… no shit bitch. I don’t think there is anyone in the stadium, in any stadium across the NBA that would think otherwise. OK, I have to say something now. I stood up, turned around, looked at her, and told her… “call me when you have 6 rings”; crickets. I kept on… “see those banners; take a picture”. OK, I’m done. You see, although I finally had to say something, I’m never looking for a fight, but my wife on the other hand… had this hyena started cackling again, it would not have ended well for her… and probably not for my wife/us either, you know, with security and all… haha. Let’s get out of here…

Yeah, at the end of the day, we have to take the L; it happens. You see, back in the day though, with the ultimate ace in the hole 23, it didn’t happen much, but nowadays… especially lately, we have taken more than our share. That’s OK though; there’s a reason why everybody loves to come to Chicago to the UC to watch the Bulls… I lived through it. When will we see the Bulls win another? Shit, at this point, I just want to know when I’ll be able to watch another Bulls game…
