November 3, 2023: Week 9 Preview Bears at Saints

posted in: Bears | 0

Coming off another national TV embarrassment, the Bears head down to New Orleans to face the Saints in the Week 9 matchup. Vegas doesn’t think much of us, making the Saints 9.5 point favorites; it’s hard not to agree…

OK, let’s start off with some positive news. The Bears traded for a talented defensive lineman in Montez Sweat. Yes, they gave up a 2nd round draft pick, that will probably be pretty high, but adding talent… that’s what I want to see, that’s what is needed. It’s quite obvious that the defensive line is in need of severe help; did they say 10 sacks all year? That’s just not going to cut it. If only our QB was pressured like the Bears pressure QBs… I bet we’d be singing a different tune, and most likely, have a much improved record. Maybe that’s why we thought our offensive line is better than it actually is… going against our guys in practice; I wonder… Well, besides Eberflus dialing up a blitz, which by the way, would be nice once in a while, the offensive line will now be challenged in practice, dealing with Sweat. Here’s hoping to challenge the other teams’ OL, and maybe even hitting their QBs???

The Saints QB Derek Carr ain’t that great. I would love to see a little pressure on him. We will have to watch Kamara, not only running out of the backfield, but catching passes. Other than that though… who else on this Saints offense really scares us? But if we’re saying that, imagine what the Saints are saying about OUR offense. Yes, although I still feel Bagent can be a solid backup QB, his look as a starter last week in LA, well… the WRs didn’t help him out too much; don’t even get me started. However, riddle me this: why didn’t he throw to DJ Moore some more? If there is one guy the other team has to worry about, it should be him. He is our best player, so why not put the ball in his hands as much as possible. I don’t like WR screens in general, but… seeing how DJ runs after the catch, it may be worth it to mix a couple of those in, and no, NOT to any other WRs…

Final Score Prediction: Saints 24 Bears 23

Ace in the Hole: DJ Moore 2 TDs

I think it’s going to be a close game, per my prediction, but… I’m not going to pick the Bears to win any more this year; please hold me to this. My expectations are zero, which protects me against disappointment the remaining half of the season. I will be more than happy to celebrate a Bears win, and you know I will be rooting like hell for it, but… I’m not going to expect it, period. Still, looking through a betting lens at this game… hard to see the Saints favored by this many points over anybody, including our cellar dwelling Bears. Let’s make this a game… Bear Down!
