November 3, 2019: Speechless

I don’t know what to say… where to begin.  It’s like I’m moving past being angry, coming to the realization that this year will NOT be the year… again.  I’m stunned… I’m hurt… I’m speechless.  Watching the Bears Eagles game on Sunday was not enjoyable; the first half was downright painful.  It was like, do anything different… I mean, ANYTHING different on offense… put anybody else in at QB… Chase Daniel, Caleb Hanie, Henry Burris, Peter Tom Willis.  It could not possibly be worse than what we had to endure in that first half.  It’s like bring back John Shoop, Mike Martz, Ron Turner, Marc Trestman… anybody else that can call plays; it can’t be worse than what we watched this Sunday.  Run Mike Davis (he still on the team?) three straight times out of a goal line formation type shit.  Run three sweeps in a row with Trey Burton out of a wishbone formation; don’t care.  I felt like throwing up.  How did things get so bad?

And then just when it couldn’t get any worse, it miraculously got better.  The Bears scored 2 TDs, and were a David Montgomery drop from possibly taking the lead.  It was that flicker that brought back the 2019 hope for a few minutes.  And then like that, it was gone.  The defense, that carried us last year at times, looks like they can no longer do that.  They are not as good as last year.  When we needed a stop to get the ball back for one last chance, they could not get it.  Are they tapped out?  Are they exhausted for being on the field so long?  Sure, there’s some truth to that… they also sound like excuses.  Great defenses make stops when they need to; the Bears didn’t.  The Eagles drove the ball right down the field… again, sealing the victory, and potentially sealing the Bears fate.

At 3-5, a 6-2 finish is the absolute bare minimum required.  At this rate, will we win another game?  Sure, it was nice to see every other team in the NFC North lose; it would have been a lot nicer had the Bears figured out how to win a game.  Another lost opportunity by the boards… another step backwards… digging a hole that will be extremely difficult to get out of.  It feels hopeless, and that sucks.

The joy of this season has been completely zapped out of me.  I’m starting to hate the NFL again, dreading another postseason without the Bears.  I look around at other teams winning games and I feel the hate building.  If this continues, I’ll end up hating every other team in the NFL before the end of the season.  No, I won’t be burning any Bears jerseys soon; that’s just stupid.  But yes, I will be stupid enough to tune in again next Sunday and hope the Bears could figure this out.  And yes, I may double down on that stupidity and take advantage of the plummeting ticket prices and take my son to his 2nd game.  This, right now, defines fans like us.  Die Hard… we’re dying… hard.  For the love of God, Bear Down!!!
