Patrick Kane is back, and not with the New York Rangers. Yes, he made his decision, and the team he chose was… the Detroit Red Wings?!?! Kane it ain’t so!!!
How much do you hate the Red Wings? They certainly were one of the Hawks biggest, if not THE biggest rival, although I’ve heard people throw out the Minnesota North Stars from back in the day. In more recent times, you can certainly make a case for Vancouver and the Sedin sisters, or Nashville and their whole “nobody with a Chicago zip code can buy tickets to the game” stuff. Personally, I hate the Kings for Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals in 2014. Detroit? Even though I’m old, I don’t go as far back as the old heads. Remember, I didn’t even watch the Hawks for much of my childhood; I couldn’t… I didn’t have Sports Channel, and they weren’t on TV, and even though the Stadium was right down the street from my house, my parents chose to take me and my siblings to baseball games instead. I do know we hated each other. We are both part of the Original Six. The Red Wings had some great teams when the Hawks were down. The Red Wings beat us in 2009 in the Western Conference Finals, but we should be saying Thank You for that, as that helped propel us to our success the following years. My biggest memory of them is from 2013, when we came back from down 3-1; that was a GOOD memory of Detroit. Now, they’re not even in the same conference as us; none of the Original Six are… that kind of sucks. So only 2 games per season against each of them, including the Wings. The only time we’ll meet more is in the Cup; thankfully the Hawks are starting down the path to return there… But, we won’t be there soon, and I’m sure Kaner wants to be on the biggest stage again. But do the Red Wings fulfill that desire for him? Sure, they’re ahead of the Hawks on that quest, but how far are they ahead of us? Well, they are tied for 3rd most points in the East; that’s actually better than I thought. I’m sure reuniting with the Cat helped him make this decision. There was certainly no regard for any Blackhawks hate towards the Red Wings, although how much hate did he really build up for them???
So, does it make my blood boil to see Patrick Kane in a Red Wings jersey? Short answer is no. Would I have preferred to see him play with another team? Yes. But, I would like to see Kaner win another Cup; I do wish success for him. Unfortunately, I cannot root for Detroit to win a Cup, so… But, good luck to him. It’ll be fun to see him twice, especially this version of Kane, certainly way past his prime. Hope he does well, but hope the Red Wings win absolutely shit. Still, not that pissed… Seeing Dexter Fowler, Jon Lester, and Willson Contreras in a Cardinals uniform was worse. Jim McMahon with the Packers? Shitty. Jordan with the Wizards? Ugh. Yeah, there’s been worse IMO, so… good luck to you 88… other than the two times we play you, which, oh yeah, by the way, is this Thursday!!! Will he even be ready by then? Buckle up… rivalry renewed? Ehh… Not sure about that, but as always, Go Hawks!!!
