November 29, 2021: Favorable Matchup

posted in: Blackhawks | 0

The last Blackhawks game on Sunday night at the UC welcomed the San Jose Sharks to Chicago. The Blackhawks-Sharks was a favorable matchup, at least for my son. He loves sharks!

It’s a little more than that. He does love sharks… he has books, loves Shark Week, etc. But, back in the day, his floor hockey team WAS the Sharks. Because of that, he has a small place in his heart for them; I’m OK with that. Like I always tell him, he can like other teams, just as long as OUR teams are number 1… OUR teams of course being the Bears, Cubs, Bulls and Blackhawks. In this case, ranking the Sharks as his 2nd favorite team is all good with me.

Actually, the Sharks may not be his 2nd favorite hockey team; I have to check with him. He likes the Vegas Golden Knights as well; this time for a completely different reason. He is already a Vegas expert! No gambling yet, unless we’re talking at our kitchen table when we have “casino night”, but he’s been to Vegas multiple times; the reason being one of his grandfathers lives out there. And yes, he did send him some Vegas Golden Knight gear. Again, I’m OK with that… as long as it ain’t a jersey of another team; I do not approve of that. But shirts, hats, hoodies… OK. Now it can’t be Packers or Cardinals, or anything stupid like that, but the Knights? No worries.

So back to the Hawks game; it was a bust. The offensive juggernaut Blackhawks were shutout 2-0. When I say “offensive”, I mean.. O-fence-ive. Yeah, we can’t score goals. 8 goals in the last 5 games; we’re lucky to be 2-3 in that stretch. Hell, even during our 4 game winning streak post Colliton, we only scored 11 goals. We’ve only scored over 3 goals two times all year!!! Yes, even though things are looking a lot better on the ice, it’s really only because we sucked so bad to start off, because in the big scheme of things, the Blackhawks have the 5th fewest points in the standings in the NHL. Not great.

A date with the 1st place Capitals in DC is next on the docket. Quick game notes: The Caps have scored 85 goals on the season, which is good for the 2nd best goal differential in the league. Meanwhile, the Hawks have scored 45 goals, which is good for the 4th WORST goal differential in the league. Yeah, if I was a betting man, the Caps look like a sure bet. Because I have been a betting man, I know that is never the case. So, based on that logic, the Hawks will win this one, right? How about we start off by scoring more than 3 goals in a single game? Let’s try to do that. And any time you’d like to scratch the goal column Toews, would be just fine with us. Go Hawks!!!
