November 28, 2019: No Jive Turkeys

posted in: Bears | 0

The Bears got a Thanksgiving gift vs the Lions; the Lions had to roll with their 3rd string QB. Now a few weeks back, we got their 2nd string QB, and let them hang around, hang around, before finally winning the game. How would we make this interesting?

How about the first pass out of his hands be a 75 yard TD pass? Yep, thankfully, the Bears had already scored a TD of their own. Yes, that is not a typo; the Bears scored a 1st quarter TD. The Lions would go on to score the next 17 points, making me think that indeed we would see Bears turn into Turkeys on this Thanksgiving Day 2019. But, the Bears didn’t give up; they didn’t quit. They battled back and beat the Lions proving that they are no jive turkeys.

Well, the end result of this game proved one thing: the Bears are a 500 team. Hey, there are many years we would have taken that after 12 games; not this year. Regardless of the win, I’m still not believing this season is going anywhere. Yes, mathematically we are still alive, but I haven’t seen anything that makes me believe we will play and beat those odds.

Sure, Mitch played well… against the Lions… again. Now only if we can play them the other 14 games of the year, we would be worshiping Trubisky instead of slandering him. Yet, I’m not going to poo poo on this win. I will take and be thankful for every victory we get, regardless of who it was against, regardless of the “quality” of win. You know each win equals the same amount in the standings.

No, I will be happy. Yes, I did wear my Bears ski cap earlier in the day picking up some last minute Thanksgiving items at the grocery store; I have not completely retired my Bears gear for the year. The flag still flies in front of my house. I will continue to not believe this season will turn into anything, and deep down hope for a miracle.

The Bears will be back on the field next Thursday at home against the Cowboys, another big time underachieving team. It’s a fitting match up. The Cowboys, perennial underachievers, vs the Bears, possibly the biggest underachievers this year. Who will stumble their way to a victory? Luckily for the Cowboys, the division is still in play even with that crappy record. For the Bears, we need to keep hoping for the right teams to lose games, while somehow figuring out how to keep winning games ourselves. With a win over the Cowgirls, the Bears would tally their 3rd straight W, and keep our thin playoff hopes alive.

That’s all I got right now. Let me keep catching up and try to get to an official game preview of this slobber knocker. Bear Down!
