What has changed since the end of the Q era? Yes, there has been another trade, some changes in the lines, lots of talk, but at the end of the day, nothing. The losses keep piling up; the latest one an embarrassing blowout loss at home to Vegas. Maybe it wasn’t the coach…
But that ship has sailed… doesn’t mean I have to like it; I mean, I’m still missing Thibs… OK, ok… so the coach is gone, and we need to move on. I guess at least the Hawks are trying something. Don’t necessarily agree with the Schmaltz trade, but 2 young guys are better than 1 young guy, right? As usual, time will tell with these things. One of the new guys actually scored his first goal; very nice, except we still lost 8-3. What are they going to try next? There are rumblings that a veteran will be traded before the end of the year….
Have you seen where the Buffalo Sabres are in the standings? First place in the East. You know what superstar player is from Buffalo? Patrick Kane would bring the biggest haul back for the Blackhawks. I know I couldn’t imagine the Hawks without him, I’m just saying. Who else could get us something? I think maybe next would be Corey Crawford. Maybe that’s who should go. He’s still a great goalie; it’s not his fault that we play no defense in front of him. So it doesn’t matter who we put in goal… Let’s bring up a young goalie, or acquire one, and have him and Ward (yes Ward) split playing time from here on out. I’d be OK with that. Who knows if Crawford is going to last long term anyways…
Change is inevitable… so making changes proactively is a good thing; it’s better than not doing anything. The problem that I have is that these guys have brought us 3 Cups to Chicago… and the thanks they get is being shipped out of town? I struggle with that. I know it’s a “what have you done for me lately” business, but still. Now it doesn’t mean we have to sign guys to 10 year deals…. that was a mistake. It’d be nice for some of these guys to retire as Hawks… if they want to.

Maybe Kane wants to leave; maybe he wants to go home to Buffalo. If he has expressed that on the DL, then the Hawks WOULD be doing him a solid by moving him, AND would be helping the rebuild here by acquiring picks and young talent in exchange. Not saying I want to trade Kane, just saying.
There are a couple positives in this train wreck so far this year… ticket prices are coming down, and the price of merchandise is slashed all over the city. That’s a good thing for us fans not willing to chuck up $100 for a 300 level seat. That’s also a good thing for anybody looking to buy Hawks gear for Christmas.
So now’s our chance! Get out to a game while the tickets are cheap; stock up your closet with some gear. Just don’t buy any shirts/jerseys with specific numbers on that back, especially 88 and 50. Go Hawks!
