November 27, 2022: Eyes on the Prize

posted in: Bears | 0

First off, let me start by saying I almost predicted the final score of the Bears game. I said it would be 30-10 Jets; it ended up 31-10. I’m finally “on board” with what is transpiring this year. To be on board with the tanking that is in progress, I need to detach myself from the games a bit; I can’t zone in, get all worked up, cheering for a Bears win, when I know they WANT to lose… that’d just be stupid. Instead, I have seen the writing on the wall, and am accepting it (what else can I do). That being said, I wasn’t in a rush to get home for the start of the game like I normally am. I was flipping between the Bears and the Spain-Germany World Cup game, while getting out some of our Christmas decorations. Yes, like the Bears, I’m not investing any more energy into this season; it made a loss like this roll right off my back…

I guess I should rephrase that last statement a bit. The Bears still have a lot of energy to invest in this season… we have to keep our eyes on the prize, with that prize being, the #1 pick in the draft. After this latest debacle, the Bears are sitting in the #2 slot; not sure if we’ll catch Houston. The Texans made sure to keep their distance by going down 30-0 to the Dolphins on Sunday; nice job Lovie. However, if/when the Texans secure that #1 pick, they will be going the path of drafting a QB; this is one position the Bears do not have to look at. If there was one that we have spoken for already, this is the right one. So let’s forget about Houston, shall we? We are currently in the best possible position to get the best non-QB in next year’s draft. Problem is, there are still 5 games to go… that’s a long time to NOT care about games… The Bears will have to spend every ounce of energy they have to lose all of them, and maintain the #2 spot; there are other teams knocking on the door…

The Panthers screwed themselves by beating the Broncos, which allowed us to move up one spot. However, by beating the Broncos, Denver now sits one loss behind us; the other team with that 3-8 record? The Los Angeles Rams… wow! These are the 3 teams we have to worry about the most; we’ll break down their remaining schedules over the next few weeks… haha. But that’s not all… there are other teams gunning to move up the draft rankings just like us. If the Steelers lose on Monday night, they also will be 3-8; come on Pittsburgh… let’s pull out a W. Even if they do pull out a W, they would join these teams at 4-8: the Cardinals, Panthers, Saints, and Packers. Shit, this race to the top of the draft board is more exciting than the playoff race… haha. And finally, let’s not forget about the 4-7 Jaguars, Browns, and Raiders, or even the 4-6-1 Colts. That’s almost half the NFL!!! This IS going to be challenging… haha.

Next week will present the toughest week remaining, and not because of the record of our opponent, but who it will be. Yes, it’s Green Bay week… so I’m NOT supposed to get pumped up about winning this game per my current state of mind??? That’s about enough to get smoke to start coming out of my ears as my whole entire being malfunctions… red alert, red alert… haha. Winning one more game won’t sink our chances at the 2nd overall pick, will it? Bear Down!
