Saturday night brought us a marquee Eastern Conference matchup, as the Miami Heat visited the Chicago Bulls. I took a quick look for some last minute tickets, and let me tell you… if you don’t already know, the Bulls are back. Nose bleeds were like $150… It was Saturday night. It was against the Heat. The Bulls are good again. It feels good that there is so much hype for a regular season matchup. I fell into it too, telling my family that this was the Bulls biggest home game of the year thus far. 2 vs 3 in the East… let’s get it on!
Of course, seeing the Heat, meant the return of Jimmy Butler to the UC. And the return of Buckets, reminds me how much I liked him, reminds me how much I hated when the Bulls traded him. I ask you this: Lavine or Butler? I love Zach; he has grown and developed into someone we can count on. He has improved on the defensive end as well. His shot selection is still questionable, especially in the clutch, but… I’m nitpicking. Lavine is a great, great player. But Jimmy is no slouch either. He’s lead the Heat to the Finals, and is at the center of another good Heat team this year. Oh yeah, he kills the Bulls too. Actually, both of the traded players have played well against each other. If I told you neither would score 20 in this one, what would you think? But I didn’t answer my question, did I?
I had asked another question on Twitter during the Magic game, when the Bulls bounced back nicely, burying the undermanned Magic. By the way, how ugly were those Magic uniforms? Orange and Black? Is this fricking Halloween? They played like a bunch of ghouls… Anyways, yes, I asked Mark Schanowski if he would take Vooch or Wendell right now; he said Vooch… I agree… barely. The play of Wendell Carter Jr thus far this season, and in this one as well, has made it closer IMO. The play of Vooch thus far has made it close too. What’s up with that guy? He played horrible again on Saturday night vs the Heat. With Zach off his game, we needed other guys to step up. Of course DD was solid, and Caruso stepped up big time, but Vooch didn’t even scratch double digits. I was yelling at the TV early in this game when they had PJ Tucker guarding him. My God, if you can’t take him inside… Vooch seems to be more comfortable being in the center of the offense moving the ball around, while occasionally bouncing outside to take a 3 pointer. Although he is a big body, we knew his defense wasn’t that great either. With Patrick Williams out, Tony Bradley a work in progress at best, it’s Vooch or bust. Sure, Derrick Jones Jr has done very nicely for us this year, and in the smallest of lineups can play the 5, but… It was noticeable down the stretch too, when he was benched late. Reminded me of Gasol… which made sense because we had Taj to be on the court late. We don’t have anybody else to replace Vooch down the stretch, and honestly, he should be the guy that is on the floor with Zach, DD, Ball, and Caruso when it matters most, but… if he can’t be that guy? The Bulls need to add some size mid-season; I’m sure AKME is already taking note of this, if at minimum because of the PWill injury, but with early developments, somebody more defensive minded to replace Vooch in tight, physical games down the stretch.

Th Heat made the Bulls play their game, and beat us at it. We already know the Sixers give us problems with Embiid, which surely isn’t going to get any better with our size issues, and now the Heat can handle us? It’s just one game, and with a season high fricking turnovers, and an off game by Zach, to be that close should bode well for the next time around… maybe I’m worrying for nothing. If anybody has earned our trust thus far, it’s AKME. If there is something else that they can do to improve the Bulls on the court, they’ll do it. I think it’s becoming clear what we need.
Something else we need is to get back in the win column. Now the 4th seed in the East, we’ll be playing the Hornets, who are the 6th seed, and only 0.5 game back. Too early to worry about all that, but the fact is, that the East is back. It will be tightly contested. The Bulls are definitely good again; the question that we will be answering as the season proceeds, is how good. Go Bulls!
