November 27, 2020: Week 12 Bears at Packers

Just typing that word… P, A, C, K, E, R, S…. makes me cringe. As if you didn’t already know this, they are the single team I hate the most in sports. I always root for them to lose whoever they are playing. I get joy out of seeing them eliminated from contention each year. Yes, the Bears winning is always first on my list of NFL wishes… by a long shot, but coming in 2nd, is the Packers losing. I hope to see both of those this Sunday night at Lambeau.

Coming of a bye week… The Bears won their first ever game coming off a bye week in my lifetime back in 1990 defeating the Cardinals 31-21. In fact, the first decade of bye weeks since the 60s, the Bears were 8-3 coming off the week away. Yes, in 1993, there were 2 bye weeks which the Bears split. Heading into the next decade, the 2000s, the Bears regressed, finishing 5-5 after the bye. The 2010s? Forget about it. 4-6 isn’t that bad, but like the Bears start to the season, the start was great and the end not so much; the Bears have lost 6 in a row coming off the bye week, including the last 2 seasons under Coach Nagy.

I remember those games well. In 2018, it was the OT loss to the Dolphins that ruined our return to play. Last year, it was the loss to the Saints at home that did us in. In fact, that game after the bye week will be similar to this week’s. Last year, that was Mitch’s first game back after being hurt for a few games. Nagy welcomed him back by having him throw like 50+ times; hopefully he’s learned from that mistake. Overall, the Bears are 17-14 after a bye week, which includes 2-3 vs the Packers. If you’re a numbers guy, hope you enjoyed the little research I did for all this info!

What does it all mean? Who knows. The Packers are coming off a tough loss to the Colts, which I absolutely loved seeing. The Bears are coming off 4 straight losses before their bye week, continuing to show a horrendous offense, coming back with 2 QBs that are not 100%. Even if they were, they wouldn’t really be 100% if you know what I mean. We have to do the best with what we got; nobody is going to feel sorry for us. Can Mitch return in glory and beat the Packers? That sure would go a long way in welcoming him back. Or will Mitch return as he left, playing like crap, helping lead the Bears to another L? Just twist the knife why don’t you. You know, a win would put the Bears within 1 game of first place in the division? After all that shit, all the horror shows on offense, the Bears could still be relevant with a win this week. It sure sounds nice…

Would you expect anything else? I know I finally came around to the idea of the Bears not winning another game this year. I know the return of Mitch is probably nothing to be excited about. But hey, we’re at the bottom of the barrel right now; we need something to have hope in… Yes, looking for a holiday miracle in Lambeau on Sunday night against the hated cheese. You do believe in miracles don’t you? Bear Down!!!
