November 26, 2014: Bears Lions I Preview

posted in: Bears | 3

A Bears game on Thanksgiving Day.  I’m not sure if I like that or not.  There’s enough happening on Turkey Day without having to watch DA Bears play.  This year, I simply do not want to ruin my appetite, although there’s really nothing that can accomplish that.

Happy Thanksgiving Papa Vegas.  You’ve been having quite a year, especially thanks to our helter skelter Bears team.  Now, you’re giving us a TD on the road in Detroit; that may not be enough.  I think that line is exactly where it should be, although anybody believing that the Bears have built up some momentum these past 2 weeks, while Detroit slides, may jump all over that one.  I’m not in that group.  I do enjoy seeing Detroit slide; it’s an annual thing isn’t it?  I mean, the Lions have to be one of the most pitiful teams in the NFL, so this swoon is to be expected.  What I’m not buying into, is the “momentum” of these past 2 wins meaning much for us.  I AM happy that we won the last 2 weeks.  It DOES show that we have a pulse… that we have not completely thrown in the towel for the season, and for that, I’m thankful.  It DOESN’T mean that we are going anywhere this year; I think Detroit reminds us of that Thursday.

Cutler against this Lions D at home?  Over/under 3 Cutler turnovers…. taking bets now.  There should be a good amount of pressure coming Cutler’s way, and that usually spells doom.  Our ace in the hole, this week, and every week, is number 22.  The problem this week is that Detroit’s run D is pretty stout.  How stout?  #1 in the NFL against the run.  So I guess we’re getting shutout?  Heck no…we shouldn’t.  How much money do we have invested in this offense?  The talent is there.  Enough talent, so that we should be able to score on anybody, anywhere, any time; at least that’s what I thought going into the year.  I’ve been proven wrong time and time again, including last week in the first half.  The Bears offense is going to have to play its best game of the year if we want to pull this game out; I’m sorry if I don’t believe that will happen.

The defense made some big plays last week.  They put pressure on the QB and caused some turnovers.  That was Tampa Bay & Josh McCown, at Soldier Field, in the rain.  Now we face Stafford with Megatron (no Peanut to cover him) in Ford Field.  Detroit’s offense has been ho-hum as of late; this is not a good sign for us.  Stafford is coming off his worst game of the year.  You’d think they’d be pretty pumped playing in front of their home crowd against us with their playoff aspirations on the line.  I expect Detroit to score some serious points.

We had a nice development in special teams last week.  I had no idea who this guy was when the Bears signed Marc Mariani.  After reading his initial comments, and seeing him on the field last week for the first time in a Bears uniform, I was slightly excited.  He didn’t do too much last week, but I think we’ve finally got a return man.  Heck, I’m calling for him to return one Thursday.  Wait…. we still have to get some guys to block for him.  I am officially disturbed with Robbie Gould too, which is a first.  He just doesn’t look like himself.  Maybe those harsh words from BMarsh “just kick the ball” messed up his psyche.  Another reason for me to dislike Marshall.  I want the automatic, good-as-Gould Robbie back.  Maybe he can bang a couple through in this one.

Final Score Prediction–>  Lions 38 Bears 27

It won’t even be that close.  I think Stafford throws for 3, while the defense accounts for some more points.  I don’t think the Bears do much on offense all day; they score some points late to make it look closer.

Ace in the Hole–>  Marc Mariani and his special team TD

Giving Forte a break.

Good call on the Bears score last week of 21 by Drinkin Fortes, while Wizzo correctly called the defensive performance of the Bears being the key to the game.

I just can’t buy it.  I’m not falling for it.  Beat Detroit on Thursday, and I’ll believe this turnaround is for real.  Go Bears!

how ’bout, first offensive series, chopblock suh and put him on the bench the rest of the game!!! worth the penalty if you ask me. he’s always been a dirty, cheapshot player, so turn-about should be fair play!

    Ace in the hole-Robbie Gould

Lions score a late td to take the lead, but Jay drives the Bears into fg range and Robbie drills a 50+ yarder as time expires for the W! Add that to the 3 he kicked earlier in the game, and good as Gould Robbie is back, and so are the Bears! GO BEARS! BEAR DOWN!!!

Ace in the Hole – Marshall – 8 rec, 140 yds, 2 TDs
