November 24, 2016: Saying Thanks

posted in: Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox | 1

It’s simple isn’t?  It should be.  Saying thanks, or thank you, should be something that flows out of our mouth.  It’s always good to say thank you.  It seems like a lost art.

I mean, take Thanksgiving for example; it’s like the lost holiday.  All the stuff that comes out for Halloween come mid-September; it’s crazy.  Then, as soon as Halloween is over, all the Christmas stuff comes out.  What ever happened to Thanksgiving?  A holiday to give thanks for all that we have, and we have a lot.  That gets forgotten because people can’t wait for Christmas.  Don’t get me wrong… I love Christmas, but I love Thanksgiving too.  We still decorate.  We still celebrate.  No Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving.  There was already Christmas songs playing on the radio; I did listen to a couple of them…

I guess Thanksgiving just isn’t what it used to be.  I still love it.  You get an entire day of football now, not just 2 games, although with my recent feelings on the NFL, along with the recent struggles of the Bears, the only interest I have in the holiday games is related to fantasy.  It’s time spent with family, and that never gets old.  We still stuff our faces with delicious food.  We have some drinks.  The kids run around the whole time.  Yes, there is a lot to be thankful for.

We’re making sure thanks is part of our 4 year old’s vocabulary.  Just like please before it, thank you should always follow something nice that is done, or something that is given to you.  It’s a matter of manners, and it’s important that my kid has them.  Maybe manners is another lost art… just look at who we just elected as our president.  Yep, guess that just isn’t as important any more.  To me it is.  Having manners, being nice, never gets old either.

This year, in Chicago sports, we have one huge thing to be thankful for.  Yes, there are many things there too, but one rises to the top.  The Cubs have finally won the World Series.  The one thing left I needed to see in Chicago sports has happened.  Thank you!  I have no problem saying it, and I would say it to every person in the Cubs organization for finally bringing the holy grail to us Cubs fans.  Just like I would say thanks to all the championship franchises I have witnessed.  The 85 Bears, MJ and the Bulls, the current Hawks dynasty, and yes, even the Sox.  Thank you.

It’s not that hard.  Don’t forget.  It doesn’t take much.  Don’t forget about saying thanks, or the holiday.  Hope everyone enjoyed it.  Now it’s back to the grind.  No days off here.  We keep going. We keep going because we’re thankful.  On Thanksgiving, my sister asked me if I was still being inspired by the Cubs victory.  I guess it’s worn off a bit… but I have to keep pushing…  keep doing my best for my family and for others.  That’s all we can do.  Be your best.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Being thankful is very important, for the little things and big stuff. Saying thanks, thank you, gracias, or merci (the old french days), whatever you please, it never hurts. This year, a huge thank you goes out to our 2016 Chicago Cubs! They did it…it happened! The last sports thank you of this year, not counting jay hopefully being done with his Bears career, but hoping there will more in 2017…Bhawks? Cubs repeat? Lets hope so! Oh yeah, and thanks for the blog…tough to bang out some comments for each one so can only imagine staying on track every day, but good reading material about our favorite Chicago teams! Keep going!
