November 21, 2014: Bears Bucs Preview

posted in: Bears | 3

So here it is… the return of Lovie.  I’m sure nobody imagined we’d be sitting at 4-6 at this point.  Does Lovie have any inner satisfaction seeing us this way?  He seems like a nice enough guy, but to find a little satisfaction in seeing his ex-team struggle without him is only human right?  Well, he gets a chance to add to our misery this weekend.

I’m not buying our W last week.  I’m satisfied with it, just like with ANY win.  I just don’t think it could be sustained… even this week against the lowly Bucs.  Papa Vegas has us as 6 point favorites, which is kind of generous in my opinion.  Based on this spread, maybe the Bears blow them out; but again, we all know better by now, or do we?  I thought Minnesota would even get us last week; thankfully I was wrong.  But does one Bears victory have me feeling confident about this team against anybody?  How does the betting public feel?  I’d stay far away from this game personally; you really can’t predict what will happen with the Bears this year.

Jay Cutler and the offense should have a big game, considering Tampa Bay’s defense is about as good as ours.  I just think that Lovie knows Jay, since he really hasn’t changed since then.  Jay is the same Jay.  That being said, Lovie will have his defense ready to capitalize on the mistakes that Jay will make.  Again, I think Forte has to be the focal point.  Run, run, run…  Heck, run over and over and over even if no success; THEN pass.  Lovie loved to get off the bus running, let’s give him some of that medicine.  Every week we talk about the importance of the run, and almost every week Trestman and Kromer ignore us.

Then there’s Josh McCown.  Even I knew, the better long term solution at QB was Cutler.  Even I knew, after McCown’s great roll last year, that we eventually had to hand the keys back to Jay.  Even I knew, that there was only choice of whom to keep at QB… or was there?  All I’m saying is, IF we kept McCown and didn’t sign Jay, could we be any worse?  I’m not saying Josh would be leading us to a 7-3 record or anything like that, but don’t you think he could pull off 4-6 at this point?  And if we chose Josh for this year, and drafted a QB, and invested some more money into the defense (SAFETIES!), maybe we’d be better off in the long term?  Ahhh, you know what they say about hindsight.  Jay is obviously more talented, and that’s what made the decision easy, and made our decision to pay him big bucks sensible, or at least Bears ownership saw it that way… I’m just saying.  If Josh was the QB, how many wins do we have right now?  Heck, plug in Rex Grossman on this team, and how many wins we got?  How much better is big money Jay actually making this team right now?  I’m just saying…

I’m just saying that McCown will have a BIG game against us Sunday.  Same concept as Lovie, same nice guy as Lovie, still… he has to have some extra motivation here.  I think that extra motivation coupled with how our defense makes guys look great, leads to a lot of points scored by the Bucs.

And special teams… they were NEVER a problem with Lovie.  Actually, they were one of our strengths.  Watch out for a big special teams play for the Bucs.

So, add in Lovie’s motivation and having his defense ready to play, with McCown’s motivation on offense to score points, with a special teams big play to boot… we’re in trouble.  Actually, this is one game I picked the Bears to lose long before this disappointing season started.  I said last week I wasn’t going to pick the Bears again this year, and I won’t.  I won’t for the fact that I have no faith in them right now, and I won’t for the hope that my picks keep losing like they have all year, and I can take credit for a Bears winning streak.

Ace in the Hole–>  Matt Forte 200+ yards and 2 TDs

I’m going to keep picking Forte every week  KISS:  Keep it simple stupid

Congrats to Mo, Wizzo and Drinkin Fortes for their winning Bears predictions last week.  Mo called 2 TDs for BMarsh and got them; Wizzo liked Alshon to have a big game, and he was right.  Anybody like Jay this week???

I hope I’m wrong.  I hope the Bears can beat another team they should beat.  At least it will give us something to talk about on Thanksgiving Day; the chance to get back to .500.  Trying to get their 2nd victory of the year at home, the Bears try to win a reunion with some old friends; Bear Down!

Just think the Bears might have a little more confidence after the W last week, albeit an unimpressive one. Regardless, DA Bears needed it and got it…two in a row coming Sunday!
Avoiding Jay as he will be good for a turnover or two. Going with the Bears D getting 3+ sacks and a few turnovers, one to the house…show lovie they remember his takeaway philosophy. BEAR DOWN!!!

  2. Mo

    Bears 17 Bucs 27
Mr $ in the bank: Josh McCown 289 pass yards 2 TDS 1 rushing TD
Key to the game: Mike Evans, shut him down!!
The Bears are sky high, but BUCS will put the final dagger in a dismal BEARS season. Only fitting that Lovie’s team should do it.

  3. Drinkin Fortes

    Bears 21 Bucs 20
Ace in the Hole – Jeffrey…125 yds. receiving, 2 TDs
