November 2, 2024: Passing Grade

In the middle of a tailspin in my DK account, I look to get back on my feet. College Football has been relatively good this year thus far; yes, even in that sport I’ve been struggling lately, but overall, not bad. Back at it this Saturday for a few picks. When you’re on a losing streak, you become gun shy. Not only do you question your every pick, you start to separate yourself a bit… maybe I need a break. As part of “taking a break”, the number of games selected to play decreases, which actually, isn’t a bad thing. Only 3 games did I like this week in College Football. Did I get a passing grade?

I actually only liked 2 games, but when I got a 33% boost on the Ohio State Penn State matchup… I’m always a sucker for those. This will be one of my DON’TS when I get around to making that list. Don’t let a boost force you to play a game that you don’t really have an opinion on. Well, in this case, it worked out. I took the Buckeyes ML boosted and cashed an early ticket on Saturday morning; good start, good start. The one game I did like was Vandy plus the points vs Auburn. The only problem with this one was that all my guys liked it too, which with UCF vs BYU still fresh in my head, made me hesitate. I ended up pulling the trigger, which lead to a 2-0 start. My final game was Michigan +14.5 vs Oregon. A 3-0 day was about 30 seconds away, until those bastard Ducks punched in a “meaningless” TD to cover the spread. Don’t tell me the coaches don’t know the spread. No reason to score that TD…. I know, wah wah… Still, a 2-1 winning day is very much welcomed to break up this current slump I’m in. Now, to give it all back on the NFL…

I believe this trend of “taking a break” which really means, taking a step back, and only playing a handful of games, will continue until I’m able to dive a little deeper into the true handicapping aspect of this racket. This is really where I need to be if I want to have any success long term. My instincts can only take me so far, and for almost 2 years, they’ve keep me afloat, which is A LOT better than my “early years”, but not good enough IMO. As I start to ramp up in all of my “extra activities”, outside of the bare minimum, this will be part of it. I’m excited to get there, hopefully in time for Bowl season, for the NFL playoffs, and to really hammer the NBA. Need some more time though… we’ll get there, we’ll get there…
