November 2, 2016: And Then There Was One

posted in: Cubs | 1

I slept like a baby last night.  I knew I would after the Cubs performance in Game 6.  There were some stressful moments, but nothing in comparison to Game 5, and nothing in comparison to what tonight will feel like.  The Cubs have evened the series.  And then there was one…

Today is a different story.  I was up at 6am, already a bag of emotions.  If the Cubs win tonight, they are the World Series champs.  I’m absolutely freaking out.  I’m useless right now… can barely function.  This is going to be the longest day ever.

As I watched Game 6 and the score, I just imagined… what if this were Game 7?  How awesome would that be?  Well, it wasn’t Game 7, but it was still pretty awesome.  Bryant’s moon shot and the confusion in the Cleveland outfield was just what the doctor ordered to help make Game 6 be a little easier on the heart.  This is the same thing we have to do tonight.  Score runs in the 1st.  Even if it’s only 1 run, get ahead before they even get a chance to bat.  That’s not a prerequisite for victory, but it certainly would be large.

And then the grand slam… As soon as the ball was hit, I ran out of the bedroom to the other side of the condo, trying not to wake my son who had just fallen asleep; he may not be so lucky tonight.  I immediately called my brother, the person I call multiple times per game, after each big moment.  I hope I’m on the phone a lot tonight.  The text lines will be blazing, and were blazing, after the Slam too.  The only other time there were that many texts was when Chapman got up in the bullpen.

I haven’t agreed with Joe’s every decision, both in the regular and post season, and at this point, I think we should all Trust in Joe, but I do agree with bringing Chapman in the game last night.  If Lindor goes yard right there against Wood, Strop, or whoever else, then it’s a 7-5 game, and Chapman is coming in anyways.  So, nip it in the bud.  There is no today if we didn’t win yesterday.  It’s win or go home time.  It’s been like that since Sunday, and will be like that tonight.

There is NO tomorrow.  All Cubs pitchers are available, even Arrieta if necessary… even if we need to bring in Chapman in the 7th again.  It’s Game 7 for God’s sake.  We’re 1 win away.  It’s all or nothing.

I can barely focus enough to write this blog.  Now, about 8.5 hours from game time, the anticipation level is at an all time high.  This Cubs team has done it all year.  They’ve checked every box for us fans to this point; there is only one box left to check.  The entire season comes down to 1 game; scary isn’t it?  Well, really, the Cubs have been playing in this type of game for the last 2 games.  But, still, Game 7… it definitely has a ring to it.  It sure would have been easier to get a sweep, or to win in 5 like I predicted, but we know better.  I guess I should have taken my own advice:  we knew it wouldn’t be easy.

But, with a win tonight, to get that final win of the baseball season, it’s all worth it.  All the ups, all the downs.. every single second… every single minute… every single year…  it’s all worth it.  Tonight is the culmination of it all.  These Cubs, OUR Cubs, can finally do it.  One win.  One more win.

I will make it through the day somehow.  I will be in front of that TV when the clock strikes 7.  I’ve waited my whole life for this.  The day is finally here.  I cannot think of the alternative.  I can only continue to believe.  I can only continue to believe that this Cubs team will be the team that will make all of our dreams come true.  Hey Chicago, what do you say?  Let’s Go Cubs!!!

Remember TIT? That’s right, Trust In Theo! See where that got the Cubs? Exactly. At this point in the year, TIM…Trust In Maddon! The Cubs won game 6 and are headed to game 7 tonight with a chance to end the drought. Forget that though, pressure will be at an all time high tonight because it is game 7…Win it all or go home crying. It comes down to 1 game…103 Wins, NL central crown, NLDS and NLCS champs, it all boils down to tonight. The bats woke up in game 6 and will need to stay hot tonight versus klubejob and the 3 stooges. Those are the only 4 guys the Cubs will see, and they have not done much against any of them. Get an early lead Cubbies and keep hitting. I am confident that Hendricks will keep it close but will also be on a short leash. This game cannot get away from the Cubs early, which is why getting a lead is so important. Take the crowd out of it and put the pressure on the injuns’ bats. Who is going to be the hero tonight? I think KBOOM goes deep again and maybe even a big hit from Heyward or Baez. I cannot imagine any other outcome than one last W. The Cubs are right there. They have battled back from 3-1. Best team in baseball pretty much all year. The weight of the world on their shoulders, but they have carried it all year, especially this postseason. So just go out there and play like you have the last 2 games. Start early and stay in front. Game 7 is here. Are you ready? I am…and so are our CUBBIES!!!
    Bleeding Blue…Cubbie True!
    GO CUBS GO!!!
    1W!
