November 2, 2014: No BS

That’s my goal here at this website:  No BS.  Well, actually, today, no BS means No Bears Sunday.

It’s been a good week to take a break.  The Bears have been hurting my head and heart this year.  Coming off a baseball season to forget, the Bears were supposed to start us back on the road to glory here in Chicago.  It’s been anything but that.  They’ve lost games they should have won, like Buffalo, Carolina, and Miami.  They’ve lost another game to the cheeseheads, and they entered the bye week with red butts after getting spanked by the Pats.  I’ve really tried to forget about them for this week; I’ve been pretty successful.

The Blackhawks and the Bulls have helped me this week forget; they’ve helped give me hope for our Chicago sports.  Actually, the Blackhawks have not been playing that well.  I never understand when they go through periods of time when they can’t put the puck in the net.  I never understand why our power play sucks.  All that being said, I’m not worried about the Hawks.  They will be there when it counts.  An interesting development has been the 3rd goalie of the year playing well.  Darling is fricking huge; he almost takes up the whole goal.  He’s played well.  Well enough to trade Raanta?  I’m not so sure about that yet.  Darling is a local boy; that’s always good to see.  However, I’m not sure we crown him yet.  It’s good to have options though.  If necessary, either due to injuries, or due to wanting to add one more piece going into the playoffs, the wealth of goalies it seems like the Hawks now possess, could come in handy.

The Bulls have returned this week; that’s been really fun.  Yeah, we lost to the Cavs, but I’m not letting that damper my joy.  They slaughtered the Knicks in the season opener.  I loved sticking it to Melo.  Then, they beat the Wolves last night on some clutch game winning free throws.  Who hit these free throws?  The guy who will be looking to get paid after this year:  Jimmy G Buckets.  Rose sat out the game, and now you hear all the talk about him getting hurt again.  Well, if you saw the play, he landed on somebody’s foot; he sprained his ankle.  It happens.  Yeah, stuff seems to always happen to DRose, but this one is a “normal” bball injury, and there is absolutely NO NEED to try to get him back on the court immediately.  I feel pretty confident he’ll be back this week.  He better be.  I’m making a road trip to Milwaukee to see the Bulls play on Wednesday; can’t wait.

Baseball also reared its head in my forget the Bears week.  With a Game 7 in the World Series played, baseball provided some October excitement; and that’s rare for us in Chicago.  Speaking of Chicago, there’s the Cubs news of the week (sorry, no Sox news to report).  I’m going to go into a little more detail in tomorrow’s post, but let’s just say, the news of Joe Maddon coming to Wrigley was huge.

But now it’s Sunday… and there’s no Bears.  Now, I miss them.  There are only 8 more Bears games this year, and although they’ve frustrated the hell out of me, that makes me sad.  Realistically, they have to go minimally 6-2 in the 2nd half of the year, and that may not even be good enough.  With a 9-7 record, the Bears may still miss the playoffs, and that’s disappointing.  That would make 1 playoff appearance in 7 years, and that sucks; and that’s no BS.
