November 19, 2019: Finding Comfort

Unfortunately, we’ll have to play out the rest of the regular season. Each week from here on out will be more and more painful, knowing that we’ve came up so short of expectations. Sure, we’ll find little tidbits here and there to be “happy” about, but it’s ugly; it hurts. These next 6 weeks will be rough sledding for everybody in the Bears organization. Will we come out stronger, better? Who knows at this point. But for me right now, it’s all about finding comfort.

I woke up on Monday morning… late. I turned off the alarm instead of hitting the snooze button. Subconsciously or consciously wanting to sleep the entire day; trying to forget this season ever happened. Thankfully my son felt better, just a bit tired. Yeah, so I trudged through the routine of getting ready for work, feeling the weight of this Bears loss… which has made the start of many weeks crappy this year. To literally have the start of your week and/or day impacted by the performance of your team is a true sickness to the die hard. I think about putting all my Bears gear away for the year. I think about taking the Bears flag down from in front of my house. I think about forgetting all about taking my son to a Bears game this year, although right now, I’m sure I can get some verrrrry cheap tickets. Why? Why does this shit matter so much?

I already had my first “comfort moment” at the end of Sunday night’s game when I poured myself a big bowl of Froot Loops, followed up by a cookie and a glass of milk. Yeah, that made me feel a little better. Getting some sleep always helps; got my 6 hours there… like I said, could have been 16. So definitely not going to wear one of my Bears hoodies to work; will probably retire my Bears ski caps for the year… have plenty of other options to get my through the winter. Yeah, so… there it is. That’s what I’m going to wear today, the ultimate piece of comfort clothing: my 2016 Chicago Cubs World Series Champion hoodie. Ah… feels so good to put it on… wash away all the bad feelings… that’s better.

We need to get through these tough times any way we can. Something else that always makes me feel better is watching Michael Jordan videos. There was a good one on Twitter today, about how the Pistons kicked him and the Bulls around, and how MJ and the Bulls overcame. Yes, pump that shit into my veins! Yes, we Chicago die hards were very lucky during that time, to have the greatest to ever play the game play for our team. To watch him play night in and night out during the regular season, pouring in his 30 a game, doing something spectacular each and every game. Bringing home the hardware x 6 in the 1990s. Better to think about that then the current Bulls… OK, don’t think about them, don’t think about them… that’s not helping!!!

OK, quick switch to the Blackhawks; that’s a little better. I should have been zoned into their game on Sunday night seeing them beat the Sabres and improve on their current run. The young guys are doing it and the “old” guys are still here. I said it a couple weeks ago, and it holds more true today than ever; they are our only hope…. until baseball season begins.

OK, can only stay in this comfort zone for so long… have to pop my head out and check things out. I feel like throwing my phone away so I have no access to Twitter during these dark days. It’s damn depressing, let me tell you. What, I can’t go through and remove all the people I follow to avoid the bad Bears news. Better to just check it maybe 2-3 times a day max. Once on the way to work, once at lunch, and once as I go to sleep. Maybe that will help a bit… I don’t know. Still figuring it out. There’s always Super Bowl XX highlights to watch…
