November 19, 2014: Coach Speak

Who do you like?  OK, it’s your team, and you have one person to lead it.  No, you can’t just have anybody; your only choices are the 5 guys heading up the Chicago sports teams today.  Easy call?  Maybe not.  Let’s rank ’em.

5.  Marc Trestman

This would be my absolute last choice at this point.  Yeah, maybe it’s still too early to bring the hammer down on him, but after a year and a half at the helm, this ship is heading in the wrong direction.  An 8-8 record last year was accepted only with the sure fire opinion that this year would be better.  Well, at 4-6, that’s in serious question at this point.  It’s not so much the results, although that is always the bottom line.  It’s the way this guy says the same thing over and over and over.  To say that the Bears are in a good place at this point is bordering on delusional, psychotic, and down right insane.  I appreciate his vision and sticking to his principles, etc… but at some point, and that point was a week and a half ago in Green Bay, you have to reassess.  You have to look at everything, and realize we are NOT in a good place, and changes have to be made.  Maybe he could at least change up his press conference lines.  Either way, this Bears team has taken on his personality, and that is not a good thing.  We are soft, passive, and appear to not care.  Although that may not all be true… better not be true, the bad losses piling up make everything worse.  Now we welcome our old coach, who by the way was fired after a 10-6 season, looking at another potential crippling loss.  Start winning now, or start packing Marc.

4.  Robin Ventura

I thought this was a bad hire… hiring someone who had absolutely no coaching experience in the big leagues.  The fact that he wasn’t a manager before wasn’t a big deal, but he wasn’t ANY type of coach in the majors.  That being said, he took a pretty good Sox team to a 85-77 record in his first year.  Since then, 99 & 89 loss seasons.  I do like some things about him.  He was an awesome player for the Sox; I met him in person and got his autograph at my high school back in the day, and he seemed pretty cool.  The fact that he is an ex-Sox player coming back to manage the team is pretty cool too; maybe something the Bears should do?  He also has some fire in his belly.  It’s maybe not on full display, but he did rush the mound against Nolan Ryan… although those results weren’t too postive.  These next couple seasons should be telling.  I think that the Sox will be better and have a chance to do something.  If they don’t, his time may run out.

3.  Joe Maddon

The muscles thus get relaxed and become free from pain. vardenafil price http://www.slovak-republic.org/viagra-4193.html The first wonder tadalafil 10mg uk solution is named Night Fire capsules which is completely herbal and devoid of chemicals to ensure a zero side effects count. A pomegranate is the powerhouse of nutrition as viagra price in india it has antioxidant, antibacterial and anticancer properties. He hasn’t managed one game for the Cubs, yet he’s already being counted on to be the savior; we can only hope.  He has a good track record.  Although no world series ring in his trophy case, he has managed one of the lowest payrolls in the majors in TB to very successful seasons in arguably the toughest division in baseball.  His first impression here in Chicago was awesome.  Talking about the cathedral, loving the city, talking playoffs, talking World Series, and offering to buy a beer and a shot for everybody; yeah, I would hire him as my manager ahead of Trestman and Ventura… just not ahead of these next 2 guys.

2.  Joel Quenneville

These next 2 guys can be flip flopped without a problem.  Where do we start with Coach Q?  How about 2 Stanley Cups?  For this reason, he SHOULD be number one.  He coaches arguably the most skilled team in hockey, filled with superstar caliber players.  That’s a nice luxury to have.  Still, he seems to always push the right buttons with this team.  I’m just glad we came back and beat Detroit on the way to claiming our 2nd Cup; I wonder if he would have been the fall guy?  An ex-hockey player behind the bench, grabbing his crotch, yelling at the referees, displaying a toughness every game…  he would be a fine choice to lead any team.  I just happen to like one guy better.

1.  Tom Thibodeau

My #1 choice to lead my team right now.  Yes, he has no rings as a head coach (one with the Celtics as an assistant)… but that’s no fault of his own.  After leading the Bulls to back to back best regular season records, the Bulls ran into the Heat in the ECF in their first real test, and paid their dues, bowing out in 5 games.  In the 2nd of those years, the Derrick Rose problems started, going out in Game 1 vs Philly in a year that I was sure the Bulls were going all the way.  We’ll never know, but since then, to lead the team to 2 straight playoff appearances, and 2 playoff series wins WITHOUT their best player, is extemely impressive.  Thibs gets the most out of his guys… every game, every night, every play.  I just hope that Rose stays healthy, because Thibs and the Bulls ultimate success are tied together with Rose at this point.  My final reason for choosing him number one is his mantra:  DO YOUR JOB.  Every team should live by this… Heck, everybody in every line of work should live by that.  Thibs is my guy.

Your turn now.  Rank ’em!

    1. Joel Quenneville – Clear #1 What this guy has done for the Blackhawks as well as Chicago simply can’t be matched by any other head coach.

    2. Tom Thibodeau – This guy brings out the best in players, you just want to bust your ass for this guy every night…but the clock is ticking…we need to see results.

    3. Marc Trestma – I have to put this guy here. He is coaching in a bad situation. Think about it..the Bears probably interview tons of NFL Coaches and assistances and no one really wanted to take the job? You had to go to Canada to find a someone? I really think the front office had a lot to do with the offensive and defense scheme which should never happen.

    4. Joe Maddon – haven’t really seen anything yet from him, but I hope he knows what he is stepping into…good luck.

    5. Robin Ventura – no charisma. No chemistry with the front office or his players.

    1. Q
    2. Thibs
    3. Maddon
    4. Ventura
    5. Trestman
Have to go with Q and his 2 Cups on top. Love Thibs as a coach and what he has done, especially the last 2 years. If he wins the Title this year, he and Q 1a and 1b. Maddon a proven mlb coach, even though he hasn’t won the Series. He has done wonders in tb for year, and I hope he puts the Cubs over the top for a 2015 Series W! Ventura is a former player who knows what it takes to play, but is basically learning what it takes to coach on the fly. He will be the scapegoat in a year or 2. Trestman is dead last because his team does not respond to him. He has lost the players, coaches, and fans, and he still acts like all is well. He has no emotion and his press conferences fool no one any more. I would love to play for Q or Thibs…they get it!
