November 18, 2014: Late Night Soul

posted in: Bears, Bulls | 4

Let me say that I love the West Coast Bulls games more than ever now.  With a 2 year old, primetime and bedtime are between the hours of 6pm-9pm.  Some nights this leaves only the end of the game to watch.  I was happy to see the first West Coast game of the fall-winter season on Monday night, as the Bulls visited the Staples Center to play the Clippers.

They say the Clippers are one of the best teams in the West.  They have Chris “State Farm” Paul, who dare I say, may be a bit overrated.  They have Blake “slap your face in the club” Griffin, who seems to have improved on his mid range game and free throw percentage.  They have DeAndre “only blocks and dunks” Jordan.  They have Jamal “streaking” Crawford.  It’s a decent team.  They’re coached by one of Chicago’s finest, Doc Rivers… he knows all too well about what the Bulls did to his team on this night.

The Bulls brought the Chi-Town to LA.  They served the Clippers their lunch.  They showed the Clippers what it’s like to play a man’s game, and took them to the woodshed.  This was all done without Rose and without Gasol.  The Bulls showed us again why they have the most heart and soul of any team playing right now in Chicago.  They outhustled them.  They outrebounded them.  They wanted it more.  They took it from them.   It was the Chicago way.

Usually, the Clippers kick our ass.  The Clippers have owned us in recent history.  They’ve beaten us the last 4 times by an average of 20.5 points.  The last time we beat them was in the lockout shortened year WITH Derrick Rose.  I remember Rose in that game in Los Angeles, and how he dominated Chris Paul.  I also remember Rose against the Clippers the year before.  My buddy and I went to the game in the UC, and watched Rose miss a FT to lose the game by one point.  Rose WAS there tonight… unfortunately in the position we’ve grown accustomed to seeing him… but at least he was there.  IF this guy could ever stay on the court for an extended amount of time, this Bulls team will be DAMN good.  I think they already believe they can do it without him; they’ve been doing it without him the past 2 seasons.

I’ve said it before here, and I’m sure I’ll say it many more times throughout the season:  I love THIS Bulls team.  It’s kind of like the polar opposite of this year’s Bears team, who I’ve grown to hate.  This Bulls team is ALL heart; they probably could even spare some for the Bears.  They play hard nosed ball.  Joakim, Taj, and Jimmy Butler all had big games against the Clippers.  These guys bring it EVERY, SINGLE, NIGHT.  But wait, what about Captain Kirk.  If you stayed up to watch the game, you got to see him basically body slam Blake Griffin.  They called a foul, but it should have been a jump ball.  Kirk isn’t afraid of anybody, and gave us a good old Kansas-Oklahoma Big 12 wrestling match with that play.  Dunleavy even hit some big shots.  I still remember when his dad coached out there in LA, with the Lakers, when we beat them in 1991 for our first NBA title.  Mirotic had double digits, and was showing some fight again.  I like that.  He’s going to have to be careful and not let these guys get under his skin, but he won’t put up with any crap.  He belongs on this team too.

It was an impressive victory; one that makes me proud to be a fan of this team.  This is all we ask for; to give it your all.  To leave it all out on the court, field, ice… whichever sport you desire.  The Bears showed a pulse this weekend, but it may have been a false reading.  See me Monday for confirmation.  There is no false reading when it comes to the Bulls.  It oozes out of them.  It starts with their coach.  Thibodeau is one hell of a coach.  Wouldn’t you love to see him prowling the sidelines for the Bears?  I could hear him in the locker room now talking to the Bears…. DO YOUR JOB!  The team takes on his personality, while the Bears take on their coach’s.  You see the difference?

I was happy to stay up and watch the end of this one.  OK, ok… I passed out in the 3rd, but my wife elbowed me awake.  When the Clippers closed the Bulls big lead to single digits, she suggested that I go back to sleep, but I didn’t.  I stood up to watch the Bulls get a big W to start this circus trip.  I stood up to see the Bulls fans take over the Staples Center.  I stood up late night to watch this Bulls team with a warrior’s soul pound one of the best teams in the West.  They’ll be there when it counts this year, with or without Rose.  With Rose, this team may be the last one standing…  GO BULLS!

I, too, stayed up to watch the game. It was a really good game. They overcame a 14 point deficit and showed real heart. It was good to see. But since you mentioned DRose and ‘finally’ being at a game he was not gonna play in, I need to re-post my rant from the other nite because it was so late when I got around to it. It was the one you were defending him and you know how I feel about that….so here.
“Yeah, yeah, I know… pay me $19 million a year to sit on the bench. But you got to know this stuff is killing him.” And no, I don’t believe that it was or is killing him. I believe he said that last year without saying a word. How many road and/or home games did he ‘choose’ not to be there with the team, ‘his team’, to be on the bench and cheer them on with a little moral support?? I think that spoke volumes without saying a word! And as for ‘walking in his shoes’, I’d probably at least tie them up. If you saw the injury play from earlier in the week, you should have noticed that as he planted his left foot, his shoe came partially off of his foot. If he had laced the hi-tops up properly and tightly, he would probably not have been injured. What’s the point of wearing hi-tops if you don’t lace them fully to take advantage of the extra support they provide? And as for the comment, you’re right, he just doesn’t get it!

Good to see a Chicago team with depth and heart. No Rose, No Pau. No problem. Nice to see Bulls draft picks playing well. Taj with 20 and Jimmy with 22. Noah, a beast on the boards and the Bulls stitting at a healthy 8-3. Finally, a team we don’t have to worry about when 1 or 2 players are INJ.

I stood up . great game i had to keep my cheers down cause the little one was sleeping . I’m glad you mentioned mirotic . I think he’s going to be damn good. He shows he has the whole package and a good feel for the game. If he puts on a little muscle it would definitely help in the post …The whole team looked good though. How bout kirk getting fiesty…lol

How can you not love a team that is hardworking, full of heart and soul, and doesnt back down to anyone no matter who is or is not playing! This Bulls team is easy to root for! I still think they are going to need Drose come playoff time, but they have shown they can win games without him. GO BULLS!!!
