From postseason to award season, baseball season rolls on. Why would I want this baseball season to be over? This has been the best baseball season of my life.
The Cubs snagged some hardware early with 2 gold gloves and 2 silver sluggers. Anthony Rizzo took home one of each, while J-Hey scored the other gold glove, and Jakey the silver slugger. I think they are all well deserving… well of course I do. I’m a little surprised KBoom didn’t win at 3B; that would be the only surprise in the Silver Slugger category. Although I think Bryant will add to his trophy case before the award season ends. I really do think Addison should have snatched a gold glove. He was phenomenal at SS. I remember 1 maybe 2 errors that he made all year. He actually did make 14 errors this year; that’s probably what did him in… duh! Still, he is a wizard over there; if the gold glove was awarded for most spectacular defender, it would be him. So many highlight reel catches this year… He’ll get one eventually.
The Cubs struck out in the manager of the year, and today, in the Cy Young voting. Joe already won manager of the year last year. I really do believe Dave Roberts deserved this award. With all the injuries and egos on that team… he brought them to the NLCS. Yes, the Cubs took them out, just like we took out the AL manager of the year in Terry Francona. Still, I ain’t mad… although Joe certainly did a fantastic job this year with the Cubs. We can talk about and second guess all we want in the last couple games of the postseason, a few earlier on, and some games in the regular season, but the fact remains: the Cubs won. Joe had a big part to do with that.

It was Joe and his style that allowed… no, maybe that’s the wrong word… it created an environment for that rain delay moment to happen. Not the rain itself… we all know that was Ernie, Ron, and Harry. The players meeting that took place. When you create an environment of accountability… of freedom of expression… of being yourself… of embracing the target and pressure… these things happen. Joe lets the guys be themselves. He holds them accountable, but never wants to take away from the player being who he is. It’s that, balanced with team above all, that promotes this type of culture that the Cubs are now so very fortunate to have. Joe is very responsible for creating that culture. The culture that led the players to meet by themselves… not pulled together by Joe or Theo… to gather together and lean on each other, and dig deep for that strength to accomplish what some thought would never happen. I thank Joe for that moment, just as much as I do the players. OK, I’m tearing up…haha.
As far as the Cy Young… Mad Max pretty much won in a blowout. That’s fine. He said it, and I’ll say it… I’d much rather have the trophy that Lester and Hendricks won this year than the one Scherzer won. Lester came through like we all hoped he would this year. After the big money deal, and a rough first year, Lester showed why he was THE guy we spent all that money on. He proved my jersey choice… the first Cubs jersey for my son.. correct. He is a true champion. And Kyle… Kyle, Kyle, Kyle. I had hoped you’d be this good, but just thought it was another one of my Cubs pipe dreams. You are amazing; I see Hendricks only getting better… and that’s scary. He may have a Cy Young in his future at some point. If he truly lives up to that comparison to Maddux, man.. how lucky we would be. Of course, as long as we don’t trade him to the Braves that is.
I still want to talk more Cubs. I still want to talk baseball. I love my Bears, Bulls, and Hawks. I’m glad those seasons are in full swing, and I’m zoning in now. Still… I don’t want to let go of the 2016 baseball season. Whether it’s the Cubs on TV, another article about one of the Cubs, or a mini-movie of the 2016 Cubs that my wife tweeted me today… I can’t, and will never be able to get enough of this Cubs team. We did it. It still feels good to say. I still look forward to next year. It will be here before you know it. Individual trophies or not, thanks again Cubbies! You guys got the only one that really counts.

Still on a CHICAGO CUBS HIGH and may never come down again. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, CUBBIES for making the rest of my life great! Thanks to Theo for dumping the old stew and starting from scratch. Thank you San Diego, for not seeing the potential in someone like Rizzo, which gave this young team its heart and soul. We are a good team with power at the corners and a nice outfield compared to most teams…ah..even with Mr 100 million dollar Hayward. Starting rotation can overcome any lineup and more youngsters are coming up. I would not even mind seeing a Sale for Almora + Solar deal. Still having a Hayward, Schwarber, Zobrist core is pretty nice. Maybe even Dex resigns. Yes sir, the CUBBIES are stocked and primed to do it again with lots of all-stars, but trophies are the least of our worries, they will come to all in time.
Its been a while since I commented, but I’m still on a CUBBIE high! Time to tear up the Bears, starting with Cutler and the newest member to the ROID club.
Thanks again to all CUBBIE fans that truly bleed the blue!

Was not counting on Maddon winning coy even though he more than deserved it. Did not figure Lester or Hendricks would win the cy young, either. All good, KB should win the MVP. At the end of all the awards, the Cubs won the ultimate award this year, they are World Series Champs! All of the individual awards will never take that away from them, but only add on top of it. We know what our Cubs did for us this year, and we will always love them for it! The Cubbie blue train rolls along into the offseason and still on cloud 9…cant wait to defend the title! GO CUBS GO!!!
