November 15, 2016: Who’s Who

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls | 1

I was excited.  Finally, ready to zone into a night with the Blackhawks and Bulls.  Seeing the match ups, I thought I was going to see one thing.. but I saw another.  I was asking myself, who’s who?

I thought both games were on late, that was my second mistake of the evening.  When I flipped on the Hawks, they were already down 1-0 after 1 period.  No problem… Crow will hold them there, and the Hawks will storm back.  But it figured… the first Hawks game I was zoned into, after the first period that is, they get blanked.  4-0 was the surprise final out of Winnipeg.  Maybe it shouldn’t have been that much of a surprise.

With that victory, the Jets are now the 2nd best team in the West.  They sit only 4 points behind the Hawks for best record.  Taking another look at the standings shows that the Blackhawks are now only .500 on the road.  They do have an impressive 8-1-2 record at the UC… that’s how it should be.  They should have a better road record after it’s all said and done.  They’ll get plenty of chances at that over the next couple weeks.  But for now, the point streak is over… time to start a new one.

Then, of course, I was late tuning into the Bulls game.  I thought the game started at 930…  Anyways, I tuned in and the Bulls were up… by double digits.  It pretty much stood there the whole game as the Bulls blasted the Blazers 113-88.  I was shocked.  Portland usually isn’t that kind to Chicago, well, that is, lately.  Of course in 1992, it was a whole ‘notha story.

Tuesday night was not one of those times.  Jimmy Buckets… man has he been playing great as of late.  He’ll have to if the Bulls want to win consistently.  He is the star of the show.  I really love Taj too.  One of the originals just keeps going out there with his hard hat and lunch pail and gets the job done.  McDermott missed due to a concussion; didn’t miss him.  Rondo was out with injury too; his replacement had a phenomenal game.

Jerian Grant, Bulls royalty of sorts being the nephew of Horace Grant who was also part of that 92 Bulls team.  He doesn’t wear goggles and he dribbles a lot better.  He was flying around the court in this one.  18 points, 5 steals, 2 treys… it was the best I’ve ever seen him play.  I liked the fact we got him from New York, but it seemed like he would have little impact.  After this game, maybe he does have a meaningful future in a Bulls uniform.

So 1-1 on the night, with the results completely switched from what I thought I’d see.  And the circus trip begins… Enjoy it, because it’s the last time we’ll see it.  The Circus will be held somewhere other than the UC after this year, so no more circus 2 week road trip required.  I’m sure we’ll still have the Disney on Ice road trips, but nothing compared to this one.  I think I will miss it; it was something we got used to.  Although regulating the schedule somewhat, will probably benefit our boys.  Let’s make this last trip one to remember.  Next game Thursday.  I will try to tune in on time.

Bhawks got pasted by the jets…seems like we have trouble with them for some reason. Maybe because the jets are good, right behind the Bhawks. Onto calgary to put out the flames on friday night and get back on track.
Bulls surprisingly took care of the blizz with relative ease. The rose garden is not very good to the Bulls, but that 92 team took care of business. MJ and the 92 Bulls went back to back vs the blizz. This Bulls team is far from that, but they got off to a good start on the west coast roadie. Liked the grant pick up as well…needs playing time. Hopefully, this Bulls team can gel and find some chemistry to have a winning road trip and start separating themselves from their close to .500 record.
