I was still pretty hyped up over my son’s 2nd basketball win of the season; I think I’ll actually stay up for the entire Blackhawks game. I missed the start of the game, and saw we were already down 1-0. I was rewinding the TV to see how they scored. By the time I got back to real time, Vegas had scored again. So I had to rewind a bit to see that. Then as I got back to live TV, the Blackhawks had scored… little rewind again to see Kane blast it into the net on a one timer. OK… whew, let’s settle in.
Can’t blame Corey for the first goal; what a deflection. The second one… yeah, should have stopped that, although how did he slice through the defense all alone? This wouldn’t be the last time that would happen in this one. I just love how these guys stand right in front of Crow and get golden opportunities to score. Fricking hit somebody!
The second period didn’t look so good as Vegas took a 3-1 lead, but wait… the “goal” was replayed, and yep, it was pretty clear, no goal. And hey, that’s what the actual NHL refs decided too… so they agreed with the millions of other people that saw it that way; NFL officials take note. That was the momentum shift the Hawks needed. deHaan, boom…. less than a minute late, Gustafsson, boom, goal. 3-2 Hawks heading into the 3rd period.

The Knights put on some serious pressure as the final period went on, but Crow was up to the task… after fighting off what seemed like 2 dozen shots in the 2nd period, Crow was standing firm. Hey, maybe he’s still got some in him… With Lehner right now, that’s a lethal combo; have some ideas there… for a later time. It helped when our top draft choice scored his 3rd goal of the year about 4 minutes in. He got his own rebound and fired it past their goalie; very, very nice goal. We should be good now, right?
I started to fade… I had started off so strong, but was slowly falling asleep. Then I saw the Hawks score again… it was a blur. I believe the Knights scored again; I checked and yes, they did. Then the game was over; I woke up on the couch 2 hours later. 5-3 was the final; it was lucky eight for the Hawks in Vegas.
The previous 7 games against this team had resulted in losses. Finally, got their ass. And oh yeah, don’t look now, but the Hawks are 500. Yeah, they still seemed to get dominated at times; need a better defensive strategy, maybe more horses? But they gutted it out, and created and capitalized on their scoring opportunities to get the 2 points. Next up, a date with the Predators in Nashville. Are the Hawks turning the corner? We’ll get a good idea on Saturday night. Remember after the last game against them, Rinne was basically laughing at the pitiful effort we put up… maybe we need to replay that in the locker room before the game. Payback baby! Go Hawks!
