Finally, finally get back to some Blackhawks talk. I’m excited. The Cubs took us on an exciting ride that went well into Bears season (thankfully), and a bit into Bulls season (thanks again) and Blackhawks season (no thanks required). Although the Blackhawks did start a bit slow, they are running on all cylinders now. One thing we should know about them, is that they are still mighty.
Best record in the West mighty is a good place to start. #1 in the ESPN Power Rankings isn’t too shabby. For all those people outside Chicago who want the Blackhawks to just fade away… it ain’t happening. Three Cups in one decade may not be enough. It’s something; we’ve been so fortunate that we just expect the Hawks to be in contention every year. That’s something all teams can aspire too; something that the Cubs seem to be on track with. The Blackhawks laid the track. They’re still on that track.
Just think about it for a second…Three of the last four times the Hawks have been eliminated, it has taken 7 games; the other time was 6. The other 3 years, we’ve won the Cup. That tells you all you need to know about the current state of the Blackhawks franchise. They remain as popular as ever, although there were a few games you could have got into cheap if you weren’t paying attention to the Cubs. They remain, arguably, as good as ever. It’s the usual suspects.
Let’s start with Crow, the goalie whose head we called for multiple times over his career. I still feel as if he’s one of the most underrated, underappreciated goalies in the entire NHL. For all the credit he does get, he still doesn’t get enough. He has been magnificent so far this year. Now as long as we keep him from going to any concerts… Even strength, there is not a better goalie in the NHL. We know the early struggles were tied to the penalty kill, which probably would have been worse had it not been for Crow. Those questions about Crow have faded away, as he has settled in as one of the most important pieces, if not the most important piece, of this Hawks core.

Then there’s 88. We all know the skill set he brings with him on the ice; the awesome stickhandling, passing, shooting and scoring. The knack for the spectacular, that was on full display again on Sunday night vs the best team in the NHL, the Montreal Canadiens. Did you see that goal? If not, look for it now. One of the greatest goals you’ll see. If the focus remains on the ice, we have nothing to worry about with Patrick.
Besides Anisimov leading the league in scoring for a bit, before he got hurt, one of the bigger surprises has been the resurgence of Hossa. He is playing his ass off. Maybe his 500th goal gave him a fountain of youth… At 37, Hossa is playing some of his best hockey. This has been another big reason the Hawks are playing so well. I had heard rumblings about trading him in the offseason. Not sure how true those were, but I’m certainly glad we didn’t. This Hossa makes us substantially better.
So 9-0-2 in the last 11 games. I think it’s time to watch that point streak again. I remember the one to start that 2013 Stanley Cup season… we’re almost halfway there. Let’s build on it. It’ll have to be done on the West Coast, as the Hawks (& Bulls) embark on the final Circus Trip ever. Ready for some late night Blackhawks? I’m ready for that 4th cup. Keep it rolling boys; I’m getting back zoned in. Go Hawks!

Bhawks have been rolling. They definitely took a backseat to the Cubs at the start of the season…nothing against them, just the historic run of the 2016 World Champion Chicago Cubs (never gonna be tired of saying/typing that). Now that we bask in the Cubs glory, it is great to see the Bhawks playing so well after a slow start. Once again, they are stacked with talent. They will be in the playoffs ready to make another run as they go for 4 titles in 8 years…how amazing would that be? Thanks for keeping the fun going now that the Cubs are done because the Bears and Bulls dont seem to be enough. GO BHAWKS!!!
