November 13, 2020: Week 10 Preview Vikings at Bears

posted in: Bears | 0

My brother in law told me the Bears wouldn’t win another game all year. It has been a tough stretch of ugly losses, and frankly, all season has been full of ugly games, but I’m not believing that, are you? Monday night will present the next opportunity for the Bears to debunk that when the Vikings visit Soldier Field. How long do you want this bye week to be?

If the Bears lose 4 straight heading into the bye, to drop from 5-1 to 5-5, bye week will seem like a month long. There will be nonstop criticism of the Bears; there will be that regardless, but dropping to 500 after starting the season 5-1… There will be more calls for Pace’s and Nagy’s head. There will be suggestions for the Bears to tank the rest of the season to get a high draft pick and another shot at making the correct pick at QB. There will be tons of wanna be GMs telling us who should stay and who should go on this roster. The only thing you won’t hear are boos in Soldier Field, simply because fans are still not allowed in. I know what I can say to help everybody feel better. Remember months ago when there were no sports? At least we’re seeing the Bears play football… if that’s what you call it. Yeah, that didn’t work; still feel like crap.

But… if the Bears were to win against the Vikings, that would go a long way. Yes, unless the Bears came out and put up 35 points, there will still be complaints about the offense, but you know winning cures everything… at least until the next game, which in this case, would not happen until 2 weeks. That winning feeling will soak in over the bye week, giving us that hope that when we return from the bye, we can beat the Packers. 6-4 is only one game better than 5-5, but breaking a 3 game losing streak would make it feel like a whole lot more. Plus, we got some unexpected news this week…

Matt Nagy will be turning over the play calling duties to Bill Lazor. Are we all happy now? I’ve always preached trying something is better than nothing. When you’re in a funk, a serious funk like the Bears offense, any idea is a good idea. This has been a popular suggestion coming from Bears fans, so yeah, we should be happy. Another way to look at it is it cannot possibly get worse. There is absolutely nothing to lose here. If hurting Nagy’s pride is the only downside, then hurt away. As head coach, sometimes you need to take a step back and let your staff do their job; Lazor finally gets his chance. Will it equate to those 35 magic points this week?

Final Score Prediction: Bears 23 Vikings 21

I didn’t even mention Papa Vegas this week until now. The Vikings are favored by 2.5 points, which honestly makes sense. It’s going to be a close game, mostly due to our defense, which continues to try to do its best to carry us. The turnovers aren’t there though… I do think the change at play calling will help a bit, and help get the Bears over the 20 point mark, which most weeks, should be enough. One of the guys that will get a boost from this change is Mooney, who has shown flashes in this dark, dark tunnel that is the Bears offense. He’ll go off and the Bears will get the W. Hey, we will win another game this year!!! Bear Down!!!
