November 13, 2018: The Parkey Situation

posted in: Bears | 0

I was flying so high after my son’s first Bears game… still am.  I didn’t want to mention any negativity in those posts, but… let’s talk about the elephant in the room.  Cody Parkey hit 4 uprights on Sunday.  He missed 2 extra points and 2 field goals… It was history alright… just the wrong kind.

I was too busy celebrating the first TD when I realized he blew the extra point.  OK, we’ll give him that one.  Heck, even if you miss a FG or two in a game, it’s not the end of the world usually.  But when you put his performance on this day all together, it has to be one of the worst games for a kicker ever.  The Bears were kicking ass, but the boo birds were out big time for him… rightfully so.  2 extra points for God’s sake?!?!  When the Bears decided to go for two points after that last TD, the crowd rejoiced.  The jokes up in the top of the end zone were that we saw Parkey leaving the stadium; somebody said he won one of those Uber gift certificates and was using it right now.  Well, that lasted a minute or two until he came jogging back onto the field for the kickoff… dammit!

Yet, when Nagy was asked about him after the game… some of us already assumed he would be cut on the spot.  But no… the Bears have no intention of working out a kicker this week.  WTF was my first reaction.  After the initial shock wore off, I was OK with it.  Nagy is going to do Nagy, and there is nothing wrong with that.

They fill the stomach and are very low in price. So, if you are among those poor ladies who become miserable in-front of your partner due to absent of emotions for making viagra cialis generico love then you should look for some naturally erection enhancing methods that may involve psychotherapy, exercise, meditative practices and yoga. Not play his starters in the preseason game that all the starters usually play in; check.  Call whatever the hell play he wants to call in any situation; check.  Not caring about balance on offense, just doing whatever is working; check.  Standing by a crappy FG kicker; check.  Or wait… maybe he’s just going through a tough stretch… that has to be it, because if he already knew this guy was done, then he should be done.  But, if you still believe in this guy… if you believe in standing by his side, and that he’ll eventually come out of it… OK.  You talk about the team being a family… well, by doing this, you’re walking the walk too.  How can you not respect that?

Well, I do respect that… and I’m OK with that decision; who knows better than him?  Yet, I worry… Yes, I thought the Bears were going to be good this year, but don’t think anybody thought we’d be looking this good so quickly.  Thus, we could be in big game situations… like playoff games… THIS YEAR!  So, playoff games are hard fought, close games usually, right?  And every point counts, especially with this defense.  So… if I let my mind wander, and fast forward to the wild card game, or the divisional game… or heck, let it keep wandering… championship game… super bowl… yeah, I went there.  And the game is on the line… and Cody trots onto the field… well, we will certainly see if Nagy made the right decision.

It’s the right decision right now; nobody can tell the future.  The fact that Parkey doesn’t practice at Soldier Field is disturbing; that should be changing this week.  So build this guy up, stand by him, and hope he can do his job when he is asked to.  All these uprights didn’t mean a damn thing in this game, but… in January… it may be a completely different story.  I would hate for a missed FG to decide our season’s fate… although, it shouldn’t come down to that, right?  Bear Down!

Parkey, parkey, parkey. How much did we pay this guy to kick here? 4 years, $15 million…$3.75 million a year. How much is Robbie Gould getting paid? $2 million a year and still killing it for the 49ers. I know, I know, this was not a Nagy decision, but I am just pointing out the fact that the Bears let go of Gould because of the money but are now paying parkey almost double…makes no sense. The Bears let their best kicker ever walk out the door, and it is still biting them in the ass…4 times this past Sunday as parkey has drilling the uprights down pat. I’ve been calling for this guy’s head for weeks, but Nagy has made the decision to stand by his man. Ok, I get it. No guarantee whoever the Bears bring in would be any better, but I sure hope there will be no regrets here. Games will be closer. Kicks will have to be made. The Bears will not be in a position to give away points. I hope parkey turns it around starting this Sunday. Practicing at Soldier Field is a must, and he finally did it this week. You have 1 job parkey! Do it, and do it well. Another day like Sunday and you will seal your fate. For now, thank your lucky stars Nagy is sticking to you. You are on very thin ice with Bears fans. It better get thicker as it gets colder! BEAR DOWN!!!
