November 11, 2023: Bulls Blow Up: Part 2

OK where was I? When we last talked “Bulls Blow Up”, we talked about the “Mid 3”. If we could move any (or all) of them, it would be fine with me. Now, let’s get to the rest of this very deep and talented roster…

Alex Caruso. Fresh off his best game of the year, putting the clamps on KD, Alex would be someone very much coveted by another NBA team, or at least he should be. Alex is one of those guys that I don’t want to see go; I love AC. He plays his ass off, and that’s all we can really ask of a guy. That being said, part of this blow up/rebuild is hitting the reset button; it would be nice to have some fresh, young pieces to help make this transition. AC could get us something good back in return; the same can’t be said for a lot of the guys. So… yeah, we have to do what we have to do.

Coby White. Here’s another guy I don’t want to see go, and obviously, whatever is done by the Bulls during the season, will not include totally gutting the roster (we couldn’t get that lucky), so… if Coby is one of the guys left standing, hey, I wouldn’t be upset. However, same concept as AC, I do think Coby has some value… so…

Patrick Williams. Who’s ready to prepare that extension contract for him? Hopefully NOT the Bulls. Look, I like to give every guy the benefit of the doubt; I like to give every guy as much of a chance as possible. I know Zach is in year 10 and we’re still waiting, but… I think it’s time to admit the Patrick Williams draft pick was a mistake. I doubt we’ll be able to get anything for him; I doubt he’ll sign for a dirt cheap deal to stay, so… one way or another, I think this is his last year in Chicago.

I like Torrey Craig, Javon Carter, and of course Ayo; as I said before the preseason, we have some nice pieces, but… the top of the roster is shot, so these pieces… well, they don’t really show their worth without the top line guys doing their thing. Dalen Terry? Another draft mistake. Andre Drummond? I like him too, and you need a backup center, but…

I don’t know how we turn this roster over and get this team/franchise back to pointing in a positive direction, because as of today, this ship is sinking; we need to do something… ASAP. If we could get something back for Billy Donovan in return, well, he should be gone too. Unfortunately, didn’t we sign him to a secret extension? Glad we continue to pay a coach to go 500… I know the roster is flawed, but I certainly don’t see Billy getting the most out of anybody; I don’t think he’s doing anything to make it better. “Shoot more treys guys!” is not the answer for a team that doesn’t shoot them well…

AKME has got some serious work to do; do we still believe in them? How is the decision to run this team back? Talk about one last ditch effort… and like I said, it’s not going to be the same; it’s going to be worse. We’re lucky to have won 3 games thus far. I hate seeing the Bulls like this. We still sit there and watch the games together, but most of the time, I just end up going on some rant about something; it’s frustrating. As Chicago sports fans, it’s something we’re used to recently. This Bulls team never accomplished its goals; one playoff appearance followed by an immediate exit, then a play-in game victory followed by a play-in game loss. This just isn’t going to cut it. And you know, if this was our version of “paying dues”, and we were on an upward trajectory, I wouldn’t mind, but… it almost feels like that was the best we’re going to get from this roster, and that, is very disappointing.

What’s next for this roster? Well, a game vs the Pistons at the UC on Sunday, which by the way, I don’t think we’ll win. But yes, I’ll be rooting for each and every one of these guys I’ve mentioned in these 2 blogs about blowing the team up; I’ll continue to do so as long as they’re in a Bulls uni, hoping for some more wins. Yet, reality is feeling a whole lot different; it’s over. The quicker we realize that and do something about it, the better. Go Bulls…
