Everyone is so excited; we have finally got to watch some Bears game that we haven’t fallen asleep during. It started against the Patriots on MNF; most importantly, that game was a win. The game vs the Cowboys was exciting; I thought I was going to nap in the 2nd half, but the Bears battled back, and made it a game; we still lost. Last week against the Dolphins was actually the game they replayed on the NFL network; since when does THAT ever happen? Yet, we still did lose. What does this all mean?
Certainly the Bears are playing better football on the offensive side of the ball; there is no disputing that. After shipping out Roquan, we saw the immediate result with a less than inspired effort on the defensive side of things against the Dolphins. Better offense, worse defense is what it adds up to today. And yes, the long term plan, building around Fields, the draft picks, the cap space… all things to look forward to, no doubt. But what about this week vs the Lions at home??? After all this good mojo has been built up, even though we’re losing, seeing the Lions pass us in the standings would certainly be a reality check, right? That’s exactly what will happen to the 3-6 Bears if the 2-6 Lions win on Sunday. Being in last place in the division is in no way helping our future plans; that would be a kick in the nuts.
I get the focus on the long term; I’m sure people wouldn’t mind if we lost out the rest of the season to get the best possible draft pick. But, you’re not building anything if you keep losing; winning, if even a little bit, has to be a part of it… we have to start somewhere. If there is anywhere to start in this world, it’s beating the Lions at home. I kind of feel bad for Lions’ fans; no NFL titles since 1957. Yes, even though they don’t have any Super Bowl wins, shit, they don’t even have any Super Bowl appearances, the Lions franchise does have 4 NFL titles. To take it a step further, they have only reached 1 NFC championship game; back in 1991, the Redskins stomped them 41-10. At least they haven’t lost as many NFC championship games as the Packers (never hesitate to take a shot at the Packers). Those who are die-hard Lions fans… respect man. One day, it will be your day. Since you had your day last week beating the Packers (thank you by the way), you should be good for a while, right? Don’t think about coming in here and beating us, OK?
The Bears will have something to say about that. And although we feel like the Bears are so much better, on their way up, up, up, Papa Vegas doesn’t feel the same, yet. The Bears Lions game is the equivalent of a pick’em with the Bears only a 3 point favorite; how many of us would empty our bank accounts on the Bears in this one? If there was ever a sucker play… danger, danger… this scares me.
Final Score Prediction: Bears 23 Lions 21
Ace in the Hole: Cairo Santos 3 FGs, including the game winner.
Yeah, I just can’t see… maybe I don’t want to think about… losing to the Lions, especially now. The Bears are finally about to turn this ship around; we’re going to be good again, for a long time. Fact is, we’re still not that good right now. For all the greatness we’re seeing from Fields, and believe me, that makes me happy, overall, the team has ways to go. Don’t lose to Lions though, please. Bear Down!!!
