Yeah, I’m still thinking about that Bears game. I watched & listened to a lot of stuff since then. There are a lot of people who feel the same way I do.
I qualfy this loss as the worst regular season loss ever; it’s the worst I can remember in the 30+ years I’ve been watching. I won’t put this loss above the Super Bowl loss, and other playoff losses, but as far as regular season games, this takes the cake. It’s been 95 years & 1,315 games that the Bears have been in existence; this is one of the lowest points.
To see the Packers (this is what makes this loss even worse) laughing on the sideline….man. I’m sorry, but if I’m on that Bears team that is getting crushed out there, I’m taking somebody’s head off. I’m getting myself a personal foul and clocking somebody. I’m repaying the Packers for the Charles Martin incident. But that would require actually caring… and I have to question that from this team.
So the question is now what? There’s a whole hell of a lot of footbal to be played; at this rate, I’m not sure this team will win another game. Something needs to be done. What would you do if you were the owner of the Bears? The ball is in your court. How do you lead the Bears out of this? It’s one thing to complain and bitch about the team’s performance, it’s another thing to have some answers. I have a few.
Fire somebody. You can’t just fire the entire team as Doug Buffone suggested in his postgame rant, or can you? To be honest, putting a “scab” team out there that actually cares about winning or losing, that actually cares about the uniform that they’re wearing, that actually wants to reward its die hard fans instead of ripping them, I’d be OK with that. I’m going to scale back a little bit, and just say fire somebody. In my mind, that somebody is Mel Tucker. Yeah, I know the problem is bigger than him… it’s bigger than any one person in the Bears organization, but you have to start somewhere. For the defense to break team records the past 2 games by giving up 38 then 42 points in one half, with a bye week sandwiched in between, is unacceptable. Bye Mel.
There are no starters. So Trestman wanted to roll with no captains this year.. or elect different captains each week… again, when you’re losing, every decision looks bad. HIndsight is a mother… So, you want to roll that route Marc, let’s take it another step. I think it was David Kaplan who suggested something like this, and I like it. You practice for your job EVERY WEEK from here on out. If you’re not on top of your game, your film studying, whatever you need to be on top of, you don’t start. This goes for EVERYBODY. You think that will improve the quality of practices? According to Trestman, they’re already great; he’s delusional. You practice hard all week long to determine who will be stepping foot on that field Sunday. Doesn’t matter who, or how much money you’re making, or how many guys we need to bring off the street to compete for THIS HONOR… you’re not a guaranteed starter until the day before the game, period.

Be brutally honest. There is no need to beat around the bush anymore. There is no need to protect anybody going forward. Let’s call it as we see it. I know Trestman won’t do this publically (maybe he should), but these conversations need to be had EVERY DAY. If somebody is messing up, you have to let them know, again, regardless of who this person is. I’m thinking of one guy here who is always protected, who always has excuses for his performance. #6 needs to be held accountable. All the Bears need to be held accountable for their performance.
I’m starting to hate this Bears team. I love the Bears; LOVE THE BEARS. But I’m not a fan of this team that’s on the field right now. But… I will root for them, and continue to root for them… ALWAYS. That will never change regardless of how many dopes are in the front office, regardless of the coaching staff, and regardless of who the star players are. Guess who still wore his Bears ski cap to work on Monday morning? Yep.
As I sat there on the couch with my 2 and a half year old watching the 2nd half of that debacle on Sunday night, I was talking to him. I was telling him how upset I was. Thankfully, he can’t understand. Thankfully he’ll never remember this game.
I’ve taken him to a game of every other one of our teams, yes the Sox too, but I was waiting for the Bears game so that he would remember it. I figured maybe next year, he’d be 3 and a half, maybe he’d remember… maybe the year after. I’ll tell you what, I’m glad that I’m waiting. I’m glad that it’ll be at least another year or two until I take him. I wouldn’t want to take him now, and that’s sad.
I got a nice surprise a couple weeks ago from a buddy who has an extra ticket to the Bears vs Saints on Monday night coming up; he asked if I wanted to go. I jumped at the opportunity of course. And yes, I’ll still be decked out in my Bears gear from head to toe, and yes, I’ll still cheer for this team just like I would any other Bears team, and yes, I will boo my ass off if that’s what they deserve. I’ll always love the Bears, but this year’s team is making it really hard. Change needs to happen; it needs to happen now. There’s only another year or so before my son starts to remember…

Congrats on being able to wear that Bears gear the day after that joke! I just could not do it. I thought about it, but nope, that is how embarrassing that loss was for me! Don’t get me wrong, I will still be on my couch at noon on Sunday hoping to see a change. The Bears have 2 games in a row at Soldier Field that can be won. If they do, back to 5-6. If they can’t beat the viqueens and lovie’s squad at home, and someone is still not jobless in the organization, I will have a HUGE problem with that! I agree that someone needs the ax NOW. It starts with Emery and ends with the coaching staff…take your pick, multiple ones if needed. This Bears ownership needs to start sending messages, and NOBODY should be safe from them. Emery, all coaches and players need to be put on notice that what has happened stops immediately. If change does not occur from within, the ax will be dropped from above. Bottom-line. Point blank. PERIOD!

Trestman, “Jay has to play better just like the rest of us do.” WOW coach! You really are a genius!
On another note, I loved Kaplan’s t-shirt of Cutler with his helmet rolled back, arms crossed, and that dumbass look on his face like he always has. And below that, “Cutler makes me drink.” Amen to that!
RD
Hopefully they turn it around and we won’t have to boo our ass off

Jeff,
“I’m starting to hate this Bears team… But I’m not a fan of this team that’s on the field right now” tells me you are getting somewhere. You are pro-Bears, but you don’t really care about this team–seems paradoxical but I understand you. Maybe you are closer to hitting bottom than you seemed to be.
Addicts must quit their addictions so they can heal. The current Bears team (not the Bears, just the current version of the Bears) is your addiction and, hence, your affliction. That does not mean that you can not watch the games. That does not mean that you have to root for the opponent. But as a football junkie, you need to step back and emotionally detach yourself from the wins and losses.
As for the Bears, we know that the current situation will simply not work. So how can we influence what the team looks like five or ten years from now (since they will probably take at least a year or two even if they bring in the all-scab team this Sunday). So all fans need to show they are dissatisfied. Fans that paid for their tickets should go to the game. The McCaskeys already took their money, so by boycotting the game, disgruntled fans achieve nothing. Instead, go to the game and “voice” your dissatisfaction. For example, maybe someone will BURN a Cutler jersey at the game on Sunday. Even better, hopefully that burning jersey winds up on TV!! Or maybe paint an orange “PICK” next to the number 6 on a Cutler jersey–seems to me that that sends a message. Maybe that will wind up on TV too. Or wear your Bears apparel inside out or backward–anything that MOCKS the current Bears team. And to really SEND a message, wear your Bears apparel like a diaper–and carry a sign that says “I shit on Cutler” or whoever. BOOOOO them when they come out for warmups and for the kickoff and for every thing that they do until they legitimately EARN the fans cheers. Just because someone puts on a Bears’ jersey does not mean that they deserve your admiration. Playing well, giving a real effort, and desiring to win earn your applause–and ONLY those things earn your admiration. And don’t forget to laugh if they get their butts kicked again and look like they don’t care. Finally, be creative. We need some new clever nickname as someone created for Bobby Doug-loss. By the way, Bobby Doug-loss probably threw passes faster and longer than just about anyone, including Cutler; he was a great thrower (like Jay) and a real loser. And his Coach: Abe Giblet (or was it Gibron–who cares, the guy was bigger than the Goodyear blimp and the Bears at that time rivaled Monty Python for entertainment value). At least the Bears never paid Bobby Doug-loss ridiculously as they have for Cutler.
Which leads to who to get rid of: Emery. He is the ultimate head and responsible for Trestman, Mel Tucker, Cutler (and his absolutely absurd contract), the lack of decent players on defense, everything. So fire him this week (yes this week–after all, what does he do between now and the draft??). That serves notice to EVERYONE down the line that no one is sacred. Maybe everyone will be too busy updating their resume to work any more, but does it make a difference this year?? NO.
Now, to start to rebuild this mess, who would you like to see stay with the Bears going forward?? My nominees: Kyle Long, Kyle Fuller, and Alshon Jeffrey.
Everyone else is expendable. I consider Matt Forte expendable as he is within a year or two of hitting the age when RBs start to fade and I think this could wind up as a three to five year rebuild. Forte, Robbie Gould, maybe a few others might be considered untouchable, but I think I would trade almost anyone beyond my core three in exchange more or improved draft choices.
