November 10, 2014: Rock Bottom

posted in: Bears | 8

How do you know when you hit rock bottom?  Is looking up at the scoreboard down 42-0 in the first half enough?  Is going to 2-11 against your most hated rival in the past 6 years do it?  Is having a promising season go up in flames get you there?  It’s not just the fact that all of that is true, it’s the fact that we have NO answers.  Where do we go from here?  When nobody in the Bears organization has an answer to that question, that is when you hit rock bottom.

There is not one innocent person right now in a Bears uniform, on the Bears coaching staff, in the Bears front office.  After a game like this, EVERYBODY should be looked at.  It’s way past soul searching time… it’s time for action.  You can make an argument for a number of individuals to have their walking papers handed to them today.

Let’s start with the coaching staff.  We did have a bye week last week right?  And THIS is how we come out of the bye week… against an opponent we should know inside and out?  There is NO excuse for that, and that has to sit squarely on the coaching staff.  Has the Trestman era already failed?  I think the first person that has to lose their job for this season, this game, is Mel Tucker.  There is no way a professional defense gives up 42 points in the first half to anybody; the most points EVER allowed by a Bears team.  In my opinion, this Packer team isn’t even that good; so what does that say about us?  Please refer back to title.

How can we NOT move the ball against this defense?  This defense that is one of the NFL’s worst against the run.  They flash our big 2 WRs on the screen… what have they done?  They show Cutler vs Rodgers #’s… they might as well show how many QBs we’ve had over the years compared to Green Bay’s big 2; it’s just flat out embarrassing.  I saw what I needed to in the first 2 drives of the game.  There was a play where Cutler’s first read was covered… there was NO pressure on him (that play)…  and he got happy feet, and eventually winged an incomplete pass.  Does he know the playbook?  Does he know the offense?  Has he ever?  Maybe Cutler is just stupid.  What was his wondelic score?  Meanwhile, on the Packers first drive, Rodgers first read was covered… he immediately went to his 2nd/3rd read and completed the pass.  Case closed.  Which coach will be the next victim of Cutler the Coach Killer?

The thing about it all that bothers me the most, is that it seems that nobody really cares that much.  Cutler is the same Cutler he’s always been, and his “brother” Brandon Marshall is who we thought he was too; they both are.  They’re losers.  They’ve never won anything, and at this rate, never will.  Marshall seems to be more concerned about his career after football, filming his weekly TV show in New York, while the Bears offense looks pathetic.  Meanwhile, back home, Cutler has a weekly radio show, which he decides to skip when he feels like it.  I bet he’s a no show this week.

Men feel uncomfortable to discuss no prescription viagra his impotency issues with people around them. It’s not just them.  What about Briggs?  Here’s a guy who looks completely checked out.  When asked about retirement this week, he said probably so; he might as well go now.  I mean, he started the season skipping practice to open a BBQ restaurant…  Maybe we didn’t think it was a big deal then, but it kind of looks like a big deal now.  All of this stuff looks like a bigger deal now that this team can’t find its own ass.

Then you got guys like Lamar Houston who wants to tell us to “eat dirt”, while he tears an ACL celebrating a sack down 30 pts.  Then you have Kyle Long complaining about the fans, while his unit continues to underperform.  Oh yeah, then there’s the biggest free agent pickup of the year Jared Allen, who has been an absolute BUST.  Pneumonia or not, this guy looks way past his prime out there.

I thought the anger of watching the first half had lessened by now, but the more I write, the more I get pissed off.  It boils down to heart, and this Bears team has NO heart.  To be unprepared, to be focused on other things besides the game you play once a week/sixteen times a year, to not care… that’s not a team that I want to know.  This Bears team has pissed me off more than I have been in a long time.

So as I sit here still watching as the Bears send in the 2nd stringers, which kind of bothers me by the way, it continues to sink in.  I’m a glutton for punishment like that.  I want this to soak in… to remember how this one feels.  Does anybody on the Bears feel like that?  Do they feel this stuff in their gut like I do?  Does this ruin anybody else’s week?  I’m going to watch the postgame too.  Yeah, it’s like that!  Oh yeah, and why are the first stringers taken out of the game now?  They should be out there until the very last fricking second.  They should feel the pain.  They should feel the embarrassment.

It’s an embarrassment to the uniform that they put on.  It’s an embarrassment to all the great Bears over the years.  It’s an embarrassment to the great die hard fans of Chicago.  We’ve hit rock bottom boys… something has gotta give.

Take your pick to describe this Bears loss and their season. This team has NO heart, NO pride, NO reason to be wearing these Bears jerseys. Somebody’s head needs to roll. My vote is the entire coaching staff. Trestman, tucker, and whoever the hell the offensive coordinator is. This Bears team came into the year thinking they were great, like they had accomplished something. These clowns are collecting huge checks each week. There is no effort…no hard work. They should be giving money back. Our franchise qb is an ahole. Dbag. Prick. Take your pick of words, but we have 7 more years of this bullshit. He is a complete non-leader. The organization screwed itself making him the face. The Bears suck right now. It sucks to watch this joke of a team. Trestman has lost this team, and there is no coming back. The locker room is filled with cancer. This city deserves a hell of a lot better. The Bears need a shakeup and fast. Somebody needs to make a statement that this garbage cannot and will not continue. I hope that starts tomorrow. We need answers. We deserve answers. The Bears have none because they have already hibernated!

That game was a trainwreck and all I can say is I’m glad I actually didn’t start watching it live from the beginning, so I could actually fast forward through the majority of it. I don’t even know where to start with this team. I’m not sure they practice at all over the last two weeks. It seemed like they went on a two week vacation and still want to be on it. I’m done with this team right now. I don’t even want to watch them play. I will not be recording anymore games this season or going out of my way to watch them. Cutler is a joke…worst decision they made signing him on for another 7 years!!!! Offensively we look lost!!! One thing that really pisses me off is the stupid look Cutler gives when he has to call a timeout because the play clock is winding down or when he throws the ball into the ground like a 7 year old. How about a sense of urgency to get the play in and getting your formation set.
The defense is non existent. They can’t stop the run or the pass…at least most defenses can do one or the other, we can’t do either!!! I’m not sure what the d-line coaches work on because it surely isn’t pass rushing. Blown coverages, horrible open field tackling, it is just a disaster.
At least I have the Hawks to watch…definitely should have watched their game last night instead of the Bears!!!!! Time to clean house!!!!

Normally I don’t agree with the ‘fire the coach’ theory when a team is underachieving. But in this case, I agree with MK, the whole staff needs to go. And as for the players, if they don’t want to play, they should be gone also. Bring in someone like Cower to light a fire under this group of lazy prima dona’s. No heart, that’s a line from ‘The Replacements’. Which is a movie about strike football, when the teams were filled-in with non-pros to play the season. Maybe that’s how we should finish the season. Bring in amateurs or wanna-be’s who ‘ACTUALLY WANT TO PLAY’!!! Certainly can’t do any worse and the expectations won’t be there, so it won’t hurt the fans as much.

Like Doug Buffone said on the postgame show last night: If I was the owner, I’d get on that plane and fire everybody.

I called this game in Fridays post. Prime time game and Cutler was Cutler. Fire Cutler, QB coach, and everybody you hired to HELP Cry Baby Cutler. Again, i say, this is what happens when you overload for one cry baby and don’t spend the money on Defense and Special Teams. Few years ago we bashed ownership for not suring up that O-Line. Now what do we say? You sank all your eggs in one basket (Cutlet) and it backfired. Sell the franchise to some one who has a different vision on football…maybe Mark Cuban. Now we are stuck with the cry baby for 7 more years and the ONLY ones to blame are ownership, b/c they have to make the final call on big bucks like that!!!

First, if you have hit bottom, you must QUIT, cold turkey. No more of this addiction. (Jeff, based on your post yesterday, you are nowhere near hitting bottom. YOUR bottom will occur when you become indifferent to the Bears. Perhaps you might consider laughing at them. They have become laughable and they are getting increasingly funny, kind of like when Bobby Doug-Loss was the QB back in the 70s). THE REAL bottom will occur when the Bears start losing money. Let me know when that happens.

Second, back to your question, how about starting with firing Phil Emery?? He hired Trestman, and by default, Tucker. He had to have been the ultimate one to agree to seven years with Smokin’ Jay Cutler (if you haven’t seen it, just check it out via your favorite search engine–and the funniest thing is Aaron Rogers apparently parodying the Smokin’ Jay stuff during the last Bears Packers game; again, c’mon you have to start to laugh at this crap, this is better than a comedy routine). Emery MADE Cutler into an elite QB by paying him as an elite QB before he had shown anybody anything about Elite winning. Emery also probably was instrumental in letting Julius Peppers go (so Peppers could sack Cutler and recover the regularly scheduled fumble and so Peppers could also apparently just slightly tip a Cutler pass to cause a regularly scheduled interception–hat tip to Steve Rosenbloom about the regularly scheduled Cutlerian events) and bringing in Jared Allen. Okay, I thought Peppers was past his prime last year, but whatever the cancer (Trestman, Cutler, Tucker, Trestman and Cutler and Tucker, the curse of Brian “the Goat” Urlacher), Emery has not identified and corrected it as of yet so they let good players go who were under the influence of “the Curse” of Cutler. BTW, That graphic about the Packers’ home-grown (only five players ever played on another NFL team vs 30+ for the Bears) indicates that Ted Thompson seems to have some idea of what he is doing when he drafts guys; so does making gutsy calls like letting Brett Favre go to open things up for Aaron Rodgers. Phil Emery hasn’t had much time yet–four or five years–but how much is he moving things forward and how much is he moving things back??

How much better or worse would the Bears be if they brought in some recent high school or college grad to run the show?? Personally, I don’t think they would be much worse, so put a big fat bullseye on Emery too.

You know me, but I don’t know you. Who is this Nostradummass???

As far as hitting bottom=becoming indifferent point, I don’t agree, but if you are right, then I guess I’ll never hit bottom.

As far as Emery, I do agree. Do you can him at this point? Something needs to be done.

Papa Bear rolling over in his grave. One more debacle like the last 2, and he’ll probably reach out from the grave and get rid of all the people we’re bitchin’ about!!!!!
